I just finished Thereby Hangs a Tail by Spencer Quinn, #2 in the Chet and Bernie mystery series. I liked this one better than the first. Not sure what's up next. I have a pile to choose from.
QOTW: I have a tremendous headache that really needs to go far away. DD has strep and a mild ear infection, and I've been in elementary schools a lot this week, so I'm hoping the headache isn't the beginning of something worse.
I'm currently reading A Window Opens and I like it. I'm only 1/4 of the way through, but it is good so far.
I finished Bird Box earlier this week and didn't love it. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had different expectations. I saw all the chatter that led me to believe it would be terrifying so I think I was expecting something like Stephen King, but it was really better compared to The Road or some other post-apocalyptic fiction. It was a quick read so I would still rank it as mostly enjoyable.
QOTW: I'm feeling healthy today and hoping I can keep it up through all of the December craziness.

I finished Career of Evil this week. I have After You up next, and two other books recently came available from the library, too, so I have a lot to read lol.
QOTW: My house was hit by a few bugs last week. I managed to avoid them and still feel pretty healthy (knock on wood).
I'm on the last few chapters of Born to Run by Christoper McDougall and I am loving it.
I'm listening to The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It's my first book of hers and wow, can she write. It's long (over 30 discs) and while the last few chapters have dragged, it's starting to pick up again. I can't wait to see how it ends and then hop online to find some discussions about it.
QOTW: knock on wood, both DH and I have been healthy so far. We're having such crazy winter weather so far (it's 60 degrees here in western NYS) that I'm worried some crap will start going around due to the temp fluctuations. The biggest problem I have is not enough sleep- why is it on weekends when I can sleep in I'm wide awake at 5:30 or 6? Oh well, hopefully can grab a nap or two this weekend.
I finally finished 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I liked it, but I also skimmed over about half. One reviewer said it was "mostly lists of every fish he sees" - lol. True. I kept thinking he really needed an editor, but then I remembered that when it was published, books and information wasn't as widely distributed as they are now (duh). I bet there were plenty of people who were fascinated by all the information that interrupted the story. I also thought it was probably a great bedtime read for kids - exciting story followed by pages of fish classifications boring enough to put you to sleep! I even downloaded it for my son to listen to as bedtime to test my theory.

I'm finishing up the Daisy McDare mystery series -- which are not great literature, but still fun, easy reads. For Kindle freebies, they're not bad. And I got interested in the characters so I have to see where they go. This weekend I should finish the last one, Daisy McDare and the Deadly Secret Affair.
QOTW: Health-wise I'm not too bad. It's summer here and I think I've avoided the worst of allergy season, which is excellent. I went in for a routine check at the beginning of the month, and my iron levels were almost off the chart low, so I'm on pretty high doses of iron right now and WOW! does that make a difference! The doctor said I would think it was a magic pill and she was right. Even after only a week on the pills I have seen a huge difference in my energy levels and all kinds of other things I would have never pegged as a side-effect of an iron deficiency.
QOTW: I have a tremendous headache that really needs to go far away. DD has strep and a mild ear infection, and I've been in elementary schools a lot this week, so I'm hoping the headache isn't the beginning of something worse.
Ohh, I hate those. I have a supply of "medicinal Dr. Pepper" for when I get migraines. I absolutely believe in the power of the anecdotal combo of a regular Dr. Pepper and Excedrin for migraine relief. I actually pay import prices for US Dr. Pepper (it works out to be between $14 and $20 for a 12-pack) here in Australia and it's worth every penny!
I just started the Chemickal Marriage. It's the third book in a series and I have been waiting for ages for it to actually be released on Kindle. Very excited and so far it's living up to expectations.
QOTW: So far so good on the avoiding illness front.
