HOLY SHIT! Last night, a huge box with my Cyber Monday American Girl orders arrived. I had ordered enough stuff for the girls for all their 2016 birthdays and holidays (Easter, Valentine's, Christmas, etc.). After bedtime, in the living room, I opened the items to show Mr. Kirkette. He was a bit miffed at the sheer volume of it all, until I showed him how much I paid for everything. I was very MM! As we went upstairs to bed, I asked him to bring up the box, and hide it in my closet. I have a space in the walk-in where I hide all the toys I've purchased in advance.
This morning, while we're still in bed, Kirklette wakes up to go use the downstairs bathroom. About 20 minutes later we hear, "Oh my goodness! Yay! I actually have mail today! I love it!". (huh) :?
Mr. Kirkette jumps out of bed, and runs down the stairs to see the happiest 5 year old ever, surrounded by piles of opened red and pink bags and boxes. It was like Christmas came early, only there were way more toys than what we planned for this Christmas.
Mr. Kirkette apologized and felt horrible. I just laughed and laughed. Then, I explained that now I'd be buying more AG stuff, in 2016. My plan to be MM, had completely been foiled.
Since we can't pretend like the gifts aren't there (she saw everything, and is super excited) we decided to use the items as positive behavior incentives and rewards. So, Kirklette is currently cleaning her room, organizing all the toys and books downstairs, cleaning up the shoes in our entry way, and setting out all her clothes for spirit week this week. If all that gets completed, and she maintains a good/ whiny-less attitude, she'll be able to select one item from the box.
Parenting, man. Never a dull moment.
Oh, I would be so upset with DH. You got to see her joy and excitement, even if not at the right time, so that's great. But yeah, DH wouldn't hear the end of it for a while.
