I had the same issue with both kids. I just tried to increase my various fibre options - bran every day and lots of raw veggies. Not a fun dilemma to deal with.
I have to take an iron supplement. Slow-Fe works better for me than the prescription samples I got from the OB (those gave me an uncomfortable upset tummy). I balance it was taking a probiotic and 2 stool softeners a day, and that seems to be a good balance for me.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd take a look at getting a prenatal that uses the bisglycinate form of iron, which is non-constipating. Also for me, fiber supplements and things like fiber one bars don't work. So I eat oat bran with some fruit in it for breakfast every morning. The oat bran alone has 7g of fiber, plus the added fiber from the fruit. I also make smoothies with pureed pumpkin, and snack on prunes.

Rainbow light prenatal is less constipating... but adding colace, You can take milk of magnesia to get things going to start and then keep them regular with colace...
I am chronically constipated anyway, then I was anemic too. My OB gave me a prescription iron supplement that was supposed to be gentler and non constipating. I still took daily miralax with my OB's blessing throughout pregnancy and the first few weeks postpartum. Even now, I'm still taking 2 colace daily, and stopped the iron supplement.
