SO I ordered something off of Etsy. The Seller clearly states that she needs two weeks to make the item before she will ship it. I totally get that.
2.5 weeks later, I email her to check the status. To this, she responds that she's had a delay due to her kids having strep. I know that's a big deal when one kid has strep let alone TWO. I get it.
3 weeks later (today), still not shipped.
Do I complain to Etsy?
I wish I could say this wasn't time sensitive....and it may not be. But, uh....it could be. There is a possibility.

I hate that! I'm sure you want the item and don't want to pay to rush a replacement. I'd message today and ask if she plans to get in the mail today and tell her to include a tracking number. If she doesn't respond by EOD, I'd complain to Etsy and ask for a refund. In the meantime, start looking to see if anyone else has it and can get it out ASAP.
So it's been a total of almost six weeks? Yeah, I would absolutely complain. I agree with the others about reaching out to her again, but definitely make it clear that you need to know when she plans to ship it or you will be cancelling your order immediately.
I would email the seller again and let her know your frustration and that this is time sensitive. See what she offers you as far as a refund or expedited shipping. If she doesn't offer anything I would complain to etsy. The seller should have messaged you when she realized she would need more time, that way you could have cancelled or looked elsewhere for the product.
Thanks, all!!
THIS is what I'm more peeved about that anything. I get having sick kids really complicates things....I do. I know when I'm sick, the first thing I do is notify all interviews and meetings I had regarding re-scheduling...it's the first thing.
katespade It's just a total of 3 weeks today...but I'm still on a time crunch
I would contact her today and if you don't get a response go through Etsy. You have been awesome by giving her some extra time but it is still just business and she either needs to send out what you ordered or give you a refund so you can order elsewhere. I'm sorry you are stuck waiting.
Yeah, I ended up emailing her. Luckily it's not her Coming Home Outfit...but something I've been equally looking forward to doing! I'm hoping she responds. If not, I'll definitely email Etsy at the EOB today.
There's some likelihood of delays or changes with homemade etsy sellers, but proper protocol is to let the customer know the status and ask if a delay is okay. At the end of the transaction, however you resolve it, I would add a review that explains your experience. Others deserve to know she may delay their equally time sensitive order.
Also, not to be Debbie downer, but the 16th is the last day USPS can guarantee an arrival before Christmas. If she hasn't even made the product yet I'd be tempted to cancel, since there is likely to be a shipping delay outside her control.
Yeah, see I would have been TOTALLY fine had she emailed me and told me what was going on....I promise I'm understanding We're also looking at a WHOLE WEEK later than her business states for shipping...I understood a few days, but this a bit much This was ordered on November 23rd when she said she could get the item made then shipped by 2 weeks. I knew it would still take time to ARRIVE...but at least I knew it would have been shipped by then.
Yeah, I'm giving her till EOB. I'm sure there are local shops nearby with something similar....has to be some cute little gift shop with something.
It's the hospital door sign....you know the ones that list the length and weight of the baby. Silly, I know...but I had my heart set on it. Do y'all do those up where you are? I think it may be a regional thing down here.

Lots of people do them down here. I didn't do a door decoration (wasn't in the hospital long enough anyway), but a coworker is. She asked another crafty coworker to make it for her, provided the materials.
So apparently, just STARTING the process of the Etsy case flagged her ESP radar. She finally shipped it 9 minutes ago :\ At least it's in transit now.....
pooh8402 Yeah, there are some people I'm sure I could have asked too....oh, well...thought I was on track ordering through a recommended Etsy shop :\

Cute! I haven't seen those. My friend made a cute burlap wreath with baby's name and a space for birthdate/etc. and gave it to me at my shower. She mentioned it was for the hospital door and then his nursery door. It didn't make it to the hospital, but I did put it on the door to his nursery.
MrsMB- this maybe weird but I wouldn't put too much hope in the item being shipped today after you filed a complaint. I'm guessing she rushed it and it may not be the greatest.
awick14 even more reason to leave a nice uh review Actually, She sent the shipping notice prior to me filing the complaint as the email hit my inbox as I was about to proceed. Like I was still typing the message to Etsy and hadn't actually hit the sent button yet. At this time, she doesn't know i was about to file it. That's what I meant above about starting the process and her having ESP

That's super frustrating and really bad business. I would definitely leave an appropriate review for others to see.
I was super late in getting things for C's party and didn't realize I would want something from Etsy for his outfit. I ordered it really late in the game and somehow didn't see that it would take 2 wks plus 7-10 business days for shipping. I was able to contact the seller and she was awesome...promised it to be made in 4 days and shipped. It arrived yesterday, well in time for the party this weekend.
I get that she has two sick kids but it really doesn't explain the lack of communication at minimum. If you can't follow through at least let your customers know. Especially with things like that. I'm glad it got shipped today. ((hugs))
luv2rn4fun sounds like you had an awesome seller!!!!
I honestly think my order was forgotten. She had numerous other people give her recent rave reviews on pregnancy announcement Christmas ornament orders. I think she has bitten off more than she could chew.
That doesn't mean I don't have a review of my own already written...
