My H apparently decided we did not have enough legos (we have 3 tubs of them) and bought a huge package from Walmart on BF. He decided that he would "sell" it to his mom for what he paid so she can give it to DS1 for his birthday just after Christmas. But I need storage ideas. We have one of the lego heads, plus one of the tubs that legos come in that is overflowing and an additional plastic tub. Is it worth it to get the lego style ones (I realize that has actual legos now lol) or is there something better? We really don't have much space (we have a toy closet because our basement is unfinished still and that's where the playroom will be one day) so I need to maximize what space I have. I don't want them in his bedroom (though I can store them in the top of his closet I suppose) because DS2 will pour them out all over and their rug seems to suck those things up and hide them.

We have these for small sets and the larger, double container ones for large sets and generally loose pieces.
I'm insane and sorted all the Legos by set because that's how my kids like to play with them. So all the pieces and the instruction book to a set get their own container.

I'm not sure his legos would fit in one drawer at this point lol.
I love reorganizing things into neat spaces, but my kids undo it constantly so my reorganization of their toys is at a level that won't require redoing constantly.
Right not she just has them all over her bookcase, but I'm trying to get DH to make an underbed storage solution that I will then have a lid with Lego boards glued on it for play. I will put her bed on risers to give enough clearance.

We have something similar to the Ikea Kallax shelves with bins. Six or seven of the bins are full of complete "sets" that are mostly together and the remaining ones are full of random pieces.

M has DH's collection from when he was a kid, which is easily 10-15 different sets. Right now it's all in a giant tote. We're starting to add new sets for M & I would love to separate them out a bit to keep it more organized.
But that's mostly for my sanity. DS is constantly tearing his Lego apart to rebuild. It's easier to help him find a piece when the bins are colour coded.
I have them sorted by color in a plastic drawer thing next to the desk in this picture. And I recently added shelves for display.
This is what we did. I'm working on convincing DH to build a coffee/train table thing where the Lego drawer bins will slide around the sides at the base and she can build there.
We separate by color, tires and wheels, minifigs, plants, windows and doors, oversize, and "special."
We have a ton. I love it.
We also use a binder with baseball card protector sheets and regular paper protector sheets to store any instruction booklets we get with kits. Keeps it organized and easy to find. This was really helpful with the Creator series that can be built three different ways.
This is the bain of my existence We have two walk in closets in our playroom and we turned one of them into Lego storage. Plus they have a Lego table in their room and THREE tubs of them hiding under the beds. And Santa is INSISTING on bringing them more for Xmas. Grumble grumble. lol
Do you like it? I just got this last week and am going to put it together for the kids as their big present from Santa.
Yes. The Lego plates are annoyingly expensive though. We got the 15'x15' ones from Amazon.
I know! I ordered a bunch from Amazon already and just have to see how we are going to configure them/how many we are going to use and then hopefully return some also.
It's all my DD1 & 2 want for Christmas too so we'll be working on this further. DD1 has almost every Friends set already (she has several at MILs house too) & DD2 has a budding Lego Elves collection. DD3 has a few Lego Minecraft sets coming too & DD4 Duplo. I think I'm going to have to figure out something more than the weird mudroom/laundry nook in the basement..the girls mostly build on a big butcher block table (IKEA) in the art room now. I have another set of shelves to move down there too. This is when having a 2yr old still gets tough...if only I could get rid of the train table & kitchen.

We have two Ikea Trofast units with the bricks sorted by color. We may add a third unit after Christmas. He keeps them sorted because he likes being able to find what he's looking for.
Instructions are kept in plastic sleeves in three ring binders according to type. There's a binder for City, one for Creator, two for Star Wars, ect.
