DS1 has "Festive Sweater Day" at school tomorrow. On Saturday I took him to the craft store to buy a sweatshirt and some fabric paint so we could make a festive sweater. Craft store only had tshirts. Whatever. We bought a tshirt. Painted it.
Then H decided he needed to move it. Smudged the whole thing.
Went back to the craft store on Sunday and bought a new shirt. Painted it. Sewed on little embellishments.
Then today, DS1 came home from school with a note saying that all "Festive Sweaters" must be long-sleeved. They can be sweaters, sweatshirts, or tshirts, but they must be long sleeved. He can't wear a long-sleeved shirt under the festive shirt because he also has to wear his uniform shirt under it. And it's like 70 degrees here.
At this point I was too over-invested to say "fuck it" and send him without a festive sweater. So I cut out the mother fucking festive part of the festive shirt and sewed it to another fucking long-sleeved shirt.
All for fucking preK "Festive Sweater Day". Why? Why did I do this?
Sidenote: I typed this all out in the evening randoms thread then decided, based on the confessions thread, that I needed to create a new thread for it. YW.
Um...can you sew long sleeves underneath to make it look like a long sleeved shirt underneath, but it's really all one shirt? If you think DS would really be upset about not being able to participate? Otherwise...fuck it. You tried. You tried way harder than I would have.
We have a whole week (well 4 days) of holiday "spirit." Today was anything with plants, tomorrow is something shimmery/shiny/jingly. Wednesday is white or snowflakes and Thursday favorite holiday sweater. We won't be participating in any of it.

Oh it's ready to go now. I cut out the design we painted on the original shirt and sewed the cut out to a different long-sleeved shirt.
Originally I was going to sew sleeves on it, but there aren't side seams in the shirt, and I've nev sewn sleeves on a shirt without side seams.
What the hell? WHY does it need to be long sleeved? I would have sent him in short sleeves and told anyone who said anything to fuck off.
I DONT KNOW. I have no idea why it needs to be long sleeved. I posted a similar rant on FB, where I am friends with his teachers, so they will understand the fuckery that is their request. Passive agressive, party of one.

Wednesday is pajama day for him. At least that's effortless. I may even send him in the pajamas he sleeps in the night before.

Uhm... It is 70 degrees here. DS wore shorts and a t-shirt today. He would keel over in a festivus sweater. Maybe they should have a festive sweater as part of the uniform wear, if they are going to take it so seriously and be particular. Way to suck the fun out of it.
Edit: You are a really nice mom for doing that. I would have told DS to rock his uniform with an elf on the shelf safety pinned to it.

That would make me RAGE. I hate, hate, hate late notice for school shit. But the only thing worse is misinformation corrected at a ridiculously late date. So you've already committed to something, then they change the rules.
And THANK YOU for creating a new thread and doing your part to keep the board lively this evening. ;-)

Sorry, reading comprehension fail. Like I said, you have tried WAY WAY harder than I would have.
This thread makes me very thankful for DD's super PC school where there is zero hint of any holidays officially at school. The only theme in the halls is "winter," which is kind of hilarious given this week's weather.

My daughter made a picture on canvas to give to us for Xmas. She wanted me to open it ASAP. I told her that it was Xmas present. She said 'no mommy. It's a holiday gift' tried to convince her that her holiday is Xmas. Nope.
This sounds 100% like something I would do. Our daycare center runs "spirit week" twice a year and I go way overboard. I thought I wouldn't GAF by the time I had to dress 2 kids, but nope - I am still irrationally committed to something that doesn't matter at all. I even went way beyond this time and had them paired to the theme of Story Character Day - they were Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf.
