And I don't even send that many. Visit with Santa $20 (fine would have done that anyway) Cards $30 Stamps $65!!!!!! For 38 stamps! I guess it's the only way to say happy holidays to my old relatives without Facebook all over the world. I only send 35 cards. How do you people do it?
Stamps in the US are a lot cheaper than Canada. It's. Nightmare here. Canada post are shooting themselves in the foot because people are sending less letters because stamps are so expensive so then they have to keep raising the prices to make money.
I've always been one to mail invitations and cards etc but I'm going to have to go the way of evites from now on, it's getting outrageous. 1 card to the UK costs $2.50 to mail.

We sent card with 4 4x6 photos in them each to family in the UK and the stupid stamps were $ 3.25 each! (USD) SIL in Australia didn't get one, lol. I was appalled!
Our total Christmas card budget was around $65. $40 for the cards, $35 for postage. The handful to Canada and UK were expensive ($1.20 each). Still better than Canadian postage though.
I wonder how much longer we'll do cards. It seems like last year we only got about 1/4 as many as we sent out. So far this year we haven't received any...
Cards are my splurge. I have friends and family all over Western Europe and Latin America. Their cards alone are going to run me about $45 in stamps, plus stamps for all the US cards and the $150 or so that I spent on printing cards (and that was with coupons and Cyber Monday deals). I'd say it's probably going to come to about $250 or $300 total for everything.
Yeah, that's definitely a case of expensive shipping/stamps in Canada. I have no idea what stamps cost in the states right now- 49 cents? I just buy bulk forever stamps.
We went with Costco cards this year and it was like $15. I am happy with them since I know they just get thrown away anyway!

I had a groupon for Staples for 100 cards for $25. 100 stamps was $49. We probably wouldn't send as many cards if postage in the US was as expensive as Canada. That's a lot of money for a few stamps.
Am I crazy that I don't think it is outrageous to pay a few bucks to send a card halfway around the world? Staffing to sort, load, unload, sort and deliver mail, gas to fuel the airplane and cars...honestly, a few bucks seems like a bargain for all of that.
Stamps for within-Canada cost $0.85 if you buy them in a booklet and $1.00 individually, so I am guessing the bulk of Hanny's were for overseas.
If you think about it, it's kind of stupid that we put a piece of paper in an envelope and ship it across the country/world just for the fun of it. All of those resources for one card that will thrown away anyway. Our grandkids are going to be like "Grandma, you did WHAT!?!!!"
I get the Costco photo cards - 50 cards for $15 (and last year I found a $5 off coupon, so it was even cheaper). Bonus that they are ready for pick up overnight. I didn't realize stamps were so expensive in Canada!
I love Christmas cards, and love sending and receiving. We do the Costco cards every year, limit the list to 50 people - this year I even did the fancy cardstock ones that Costco offered - so I think $35 for 50 cards, $25 on postage, done. I sent just a few overseas, so I don't mind the extra postage there. If I had a lot of friends and family abroad, that might be another story
I buy the cheapie photo cards. I would love the fancy two sided cardstock ones, but I wasn't willing to shell out over $100 on Christmas cards.
This. I love cards and I love cute graphics. I just don't care if my paper is glossy/matte/pearlescent/plain/rounded corners/diamond cut blah blah.
A lot of years I just send .49 cent cards.
Lately though I've been having my pictures (usually a collage from the year, which helps and saves money) ready to go Thanksgiving week and have scored great deals that way. This year I got 75 card stock fancy cards for $50.00...not bad.
I had no idea stamps in Canada were that expensive!
That said, I just figure the costs of sending cards (probably about $150) into my holiday "budget." I love cards too and can't imagine not sending them. I do pinch pennies by doing photo cards from Costco versus something fancier. We send about 150 cards each year.
