Jojo is doing wonderful. She has been at home for three weeks now and is back to her normal self. A big ball of leggy energy.
When she left the ER vet they were concerned that her albumin levels were too low (below 2.5-4) and that it could cause fluid retention in her chest and slow healing of the bowels.
We changed vets and her new office is the absolute best. Her vet just radiates love for animals and she is so kind and explains and listens. She requested to meet the miracle pup.
Jojo has had 2 post op check ups now, her last one she was able to have her sutures out and was able to not be pent up in her crate all the time. She is enjoying her new found freedom.
Her albumin levels are at 2.5 right now and we were able to increase her food intake to 4-6x a day. Of course she just barks at the bag all day like "hey, I see it. Feed me!!"
The tissue from her stomach and bowels was analyzed and they found that she has an autoimmune disease that is attacking her bowels. It basically doesn't let protein get absorbed which can cause weight loss and other complications. Best case is she is kept on a hypoallergenic diet all of her life and mild to worse is she stays on medications and steroids her entire life. She is still taking an antibiotic to cut inflammation in her bowels 1x a day.
So far she is on hard and wet i/d food and a hypoallergenic food. She is gaining weight slowly but surely. She isn't as sunken in and her ribs are no longer protruding as much. She is still skinny but looks a million times better.
If she would stand still, I would get a picture of her!
Over all she pulled through so well and I am glad I turned to ML. I know people had doubts and in the middle of it, I did to but her recovery has blown everyone's minds and without ML, my dog would not be here. Not a day goes by where I don't count my lucky stars.
So glad to see this update. She is looking so much better. I'm glad her condition sounds to be easily manageable. I know how much my pets mean to me and I'm so glad she has been on the mend.
I'm so glad to read this! She looks a ton better than the last photos you posted. I cannot believe the old vet was just going to let her starve to death. omg. I'm so glad you have a wonderful new vet, and I hope you blast the old vet in every public outlet you can find.
Yeah!! Great news! Does the protein problem mean she has to be a doggie vegetarian? One of my good friends has her doggie on a veg diet, and it's done wonders for him.
I'm growing older but not up. My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck, let the winds of time blow over my head. I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead.
