There was some lady who duct taped a dog's mouth shut and it went Facebook crazy and I think she got arrested. These are children with duct tape on their mouths; no outrage?
It took me a while to get this. I stared at this trying to figure out if there was some political statement being made about treatment of women by ISIS or something. Because I didn't actually think that normal Americans living in 20fucking15 would do something like this.
These parents are shitty humans. And the photographer is a dipshit.

This would have been a pathetic joke if all the kids had been mouths taped shut while the parents held the "Peace on Earth" sign. Taping all the females while leaving the males "free" elevates it from "pathetic and tasteless" to something much worse.

No, this is FUNNY! Don't you see? Because it was the females in the photo! And women talk too much. Get it? And, everyone involved was totally FINE with this picture, so you just have no sense of humor. Taping a dogs mouth shut is wrong. Taping women's mouths is FUNNY.

The irony of the photograph, and likely political views and the treatment of women by ISIS is totally lost on this family and photographer.

Such a fine lesson for that little boy. That's what kills me. I'd find it haha tasteless if it was just the kids silenced, or even everyone but dad silenced. But silencing the girls and having that little boy stand above them grinning.... That's where this really went wrong.
How anyone finds this funny is beyond me. I read some of the comments (I know) and people were defending the photograph by saying Liberals don't have a sense of humor.

Ick. Way to teach children from the time they're toddlers what misogyny is and how to best accomplish it.
I'm guessing it's their own spin on the cards I've seen with a picture of a new baby and the caption "No more Silent Nights!" Which is cheesy but cute. I think they were going for that and instead took a horrible turn.

I live in a loud, chatty house... I'm the only girl there. I find this offensive and would probably be weirded out and step-away from someone who sent me that holiday card. It's one thing to have a dynamic where one partner is a talker and one isn't, but it's another to promote the idea that all the women/girls in your family are the talkers and the men aren't.
Holy fucking shit, just no. And that was what I said BEFORE I saw the lights tying them up. Wow.
Is it bad though that I do think it would be funny with both genders of kids tied up :/ and yet I was outraged by the dog, people mentioned. I think I need to reevaluate myself.

This was where my mind first went. Like they were trying to make some sort of political statement about the treatment of women around the world, and I thought, "Provocative, but I don't know that I'd use my holiday cards to be political." And then I looked closer and got it and wanted to vomit.

No, I don't think you do. Temporarily loosely tying your kids (of both genders) up for a slightly tacky joke is not even in the same realm as putting duct tape around a dog's muzzle so tightly that her tongue is caught between her teeth and leaving it on for up to 48 hours. Nope. Not even a comparison.
She did that for 48 hours?! Crap, I had no idea. I was outraged when I thought it was just for the purpose of a "funny" photo.
This bugs me because it makes it seems like this attitude is something only crazy fundies get into.
I've a whole blocked list on Facebook that proves that wrong. People who consider themselves "modern, progressive parents" who would find this funny.
wait, my comment bugs you or the picture?
I have no idea if this family is a crazy fundie family or not. I just wouldn't be surprised to find out they want total control from the get-go.
I read her comment to you as it bugs her that you just assume they are fundie. There are a lot of tone-deaf people who are anti-spanking, pro natural consequences, so just assuming they are fundie is odd b/c most likely they are just tone-deaf people like a lot of the nation.

That's what I thought too. As far as I was aware blanket training wasn't specifically a fondue thing. Feel free to correct me though.
