that sounds really weird. anytime I've had a pending teeny tiny $$ charge that is in no way related to me, the bank auto closed the card (their recommendation) and we set up a new one.
Cancel the card. We had two small transactions on ours and someone at the bank told us the same thing. The next day there were over $1200 of charges that went through. Then we had to wait 3-5 days to get it back. While talking to another rep at the bank I explained that the other person had said to not cancel and he said that was crazy!
I've always had the bank automatically cancel the card if there are any strange charges. We've had it happen a couple of times with BofA, they cancel right away, and then send us new cards. I would cancel and then probably find a new bank.

The only way I wouldn't cancel the card is if they had a no liability policy and would reimburse me right away if the charges actually went through. If not and they wanted me to put my own money on the line, I'd cancel and get a new bank. It was a huge hassle the one time I had fraudulent charges pulled from my account, so I'd be inclined to just close the account.
I would cancel. From what I understand they start with a small amount and if it goes through then they start charging the big stuff. I would then switch banks because I wouldn't be surprised that if you listen to them and your account gets drained then it will take you jumping through a million hoops to get your money back.
