I got fired once too, I worked at a laundromat in high school which consisted of me sitting around making change for folks. I mopped every night. The manager HATED me because I took over for one of my friends who was kind of flaky. She was waiting for me one morning when I showed up for my shift (she had to open the safe to get the cash drawer). She took me over to the coin machine and pointed out a set of very muddy footprints that led up to it. She then told me it was obvious I didn't mop and if I couldn't be bothered to mop then I was done, get out.
The owner showed up as I was leaving in tears and said to the manager "oh by the way, I came in early this morning to fiddle with the coin machine; it's been sticking". Her eyes got big but she didn't call after me and I was done with her bs so I just left. She was awful.
When I was 18, I drove a beer cart on a golf course at a country club.
I regularly let an old man pat my ass because he tipped me $50-100/day.
Also I ran over a squirrel on the green, panicked, and peeled off directly into a tree. I told my boss the damage was from getting hit with several golf balls in one day.
I got fired from a lifeguarding job for fraternizing with club members (read: they bought me a drink after work and my boss saw me holding it and I was only 17). My father made me go in the next day and cry to the manager and he unfired me. It was really embarrassing.

On a similar note, I had TWO jobs in college that I just walked out of, giving no notice or anything.
One was as a canvasser - I did it for one day and never went back. It was eight hours of knocking on doors, trying to get money for the Audubon Society.
The second was as a telemarketer for a mortgage refinance company. I worked there for about a week during Christmas break my senior year of college. The reason I quit? In one day, the manager (someone I had previously worked with at a pharmacy) cornered me near the bathrooms and forced me to kiss him on the cheek (I was 21 and hoping to get a great job at this company so I just kind of let it happen).
Then, that same day, I called someone and he started jerking off to the sound of my voice. OMG I left and decided that I would never work for that company, no matter how much money they promised I'd make.
I got fired once too. I had worked at a retail-facing shipping center store (you know the one probably) for years in high school due to a family connection. I knew the business so when I went to college I was an easy hire for the local store (these are franchises). The store manager was a total bitch, hands down the worst person I've worked for. She required we buy and wear these awful denim button down branded tops. We had to show up 20 minutes before our shift (unpaid) for an 'inspection' which I once failed because my jeans were 'torn' along the heel. I am 5'1" people my jeans drag! Then over Christmas she booked me for a shift I told her I could not get to due to finals and she told me to be there or I would face disciplinary action. I didn't come because, you know, I had a final. I came back the next semester and before I could call and quit, she called me and said 'since I've not heard from you I assume you're not coming back you have to bring me your name tag and I have your last paycheck minus the cost of your new shirt for this year". I was too young to fight it but oh my god. Bitch.

@mrsbecky, that's tough. Does your brother know about that family history? Even if he did, it's probably not an easy decision given that they presumably wanted to honor your SIL's dad.
I worked at a grocery store and while 99% of people are great, some are real pieces of work. I don't care if you have two overflowing carts and a binder of coupons. If you have a good attitude, I will like you. The WORST was the express lane. People are in a rush, you don't get a bagger, and almost every single transaction tries to sneak more than 10 items. One lady had a shit fit one day because I didn't walk around my station and put her one plastic bag into her cart. She looked up from putting her wallet away, smacked the cart and yelled NO. She then literally had a temper tantrum in line - screamed that she wasn't leaving, that my mom didn't raise me right, and she wanted my manager right then and there so she could watch me get fired - and I ended up crying hysterically while flagging down a bagger that could alert the manager. I honestly thought she might physically harm me because her reaction was just so overblown for the situation. The store manager, to his eternal credit, calmly told her to get the FUCK out of his store and never come back. I had to watch a training video though. I'm still bitter about that.
Anyways, moral being, be a decent human being to your checkout person.
Confession of a crime I may commit in the next hour:
I'm working out of DH's office this morning. He just left for a few hours and my Christmas gifts are in bags under his desk. He knows I know they are there.
We aren't doing big gifts this year (we booked a no kids vacation for next year as our gift to each other) but I'm curious what little gifts he got me.... Why do I want to ruin his/my surprise?
My sister worked retail (BBW and then Gap) through college. The stories she told made me really appreciate my job waiting tables at a sports bar type place, and oh lord there were some crappy things about that job.
H just sent me a text that he wants to get his family Christmas presents. My confession is I do NOT want to get them a thing!
First of all, we have not exchanged gifts among adults in YEARS on either side of the family. With the exception of getting my mom a Kindle last year that was more of a thank you for moving her life here to be our nanny.
So, now he wants to give them gifts but not my family? I don't have time to shop for my mom and sister and send things to my brothers and father. Its the 22nd!! And it's rude that my mom and sister will be here and they get nothing while we hand out gifts to his family?!?
Nevermind the fact that his family is never around! Seriously, we see his father at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas despite living 20 mins away. He never, ever calls or asks about the kids etc. They are just not involved in our lives except when they come around at the holidays despite them all loving 20 mins away. Plus, I spend a shit ton of money every year hosting every single holiday meal not to mention the time and energy spent on it!!! I do not want to spend more money on these people.
I kinda sorta got fired (but not really) from my TCBY job in high school. I worked there only on Sundays and it was all day. I never got a break or anything! (probably highly illegal but that's not important here) I was the only one at the kiosk so if I had to go to the bathroom, the stand was unmanned. It was a long day and would get very busy but I didn't mind it.
Anyway, my youth group was going on a trip to Appalachia for volunteer work. I gave notice I wanted a day off but apparently I didn't give enough notice (I think it was a few days? I can't remember... might have been a week) and the guy fired me for not giving enough notice for ONE DAY OFF!
I go on my trip. When I came back the boss called me and asked if I was coming in that Sunday! Um, what?! He probably realized no other person was going to work that stand by themselves for 8+ hours on a Sunday, so he regretted letting me go.
I said no and then I put my notice in that I was quitting
Oh I have a retail related one. I had a second job at GAP kids when C was 2. I got sick and had to call into both my regular job and that job. Regular job was all "feel better X can cover that important meeting for you" GAP was all "when do you think you will be better? This puts us in a very tight position"
It was like a Tuesday or something so not even busy.
Was still sick the next day and tried to call all day and talk to one of the managers and they were busy and you weren't allowed to leave call in messages with other employees.
I am confessing that I may kill my husband. He just called to let me know he forgot to mention his mom is coming into town and she will be here in 30 minutes. SERIOUSLY?!?!?

Oh crap. Oh no. OH HELL NO. I'll help you hide the body.
I've never been fired; but the only time I ever had to fire someone was at my retail job, and she took a swing at me and had to be escorted out by mall security.

You can hide out here for a few weeks. RIP to your husband.
I worked at Annie Sez in college and I hated it. Towards the end of the summer I decided I was done so I lied and said they my college was giving me an RA job and I had to go back early. After I left I worked for my neighbors law office for the rest of the summer. So much better.
I had one hourly job working low-level IT at an investment bank subsidiary, no drama. Fired from my first real job out of college, not much drama.
My sister and her husband are visiting (his family lives in BC, so they visit for Xmas and either have a layover or drive up every year), and they have a full day of activities planned. My confession is that I hope this gives her a taste of how our lives go on a day-to-day basis.

And yea, I realize I am being a total bitch.
Team you on this one!! I'd argue the point that your family will be there too and it's not fair to only give his family gifts.
