So he now has 3 different things he needs to take, two are twice a day. The Zantac tastes terrible. Luckily its only 1 ml, so I think I can just squirt it in the back of his throat, but the other 2 are more and I'm afraid if I do that he will gag. But I tried just squirting in in the side of his cheek, but he just let it dribble out of his mouth and then coughed and barfed it all up on me
What the hell do I do? Does mixing it in milk work? I obviously have to ask the Dr about the specific meds, but I'm afraid it wont work and then well have wasted the milk and meds and he wont drink at all
My kids will pretty much only take medicine if I put it in a shot glass and let them drink it.
DS was prescribed Zantac (I think) for reflux ad a baby but he would not take it. He'd throw up anything I got down immediately. My pedi recommended probiotic drops(tasteless) and he'd takes those from a spoon. Within a week he was mostly reflux free. Idk I that's what you're dealing with but it might be worth a shot.

The pharmacist should be able to flavor the zantac for you. Might still not be great, but my ds used to take it no problem. Also, how old is he? Can you explain that the medicine is needed and offer a treat to help the taste go away if he takes it well? Also, for some reason with my kids, they like choosing how to take it, either in the syringe thing or a little cup, and they like squirting the syringe themselves, so I let them do that, but they are old enough to understand they can't spill and whatnot.
Check with the pharmacy-most places have fun flavors to add for kids so it goes down easier! If your pharmacy doesn't do it, it wouldn't hurt to call around and find one that does. Ds was mixed with cherry flavor and I just called it "candy"

I have zero helpful advice (DD refuses to take all liquid medicine, and has since she was an infant; truly the only thing that worked was her getting old enough to take chewables), but wanted to send good ninja mama vibes as you attempt to out smart your baby. It's a super frustrating situation, and you have my sorries.
We did what tooshort did, b/c DS wouldn't take a bottle. It was not a fun stage. He was an infant, though. We did that with both Zantac and Prevacid. After a while, he was totally fine w/ taking Zantac. I believe you can give Zantac in a bottle.
Thanks guys. I got all frustrated this morning, but I brought it with me to his therapy and let her help me. I just squirted the Zantac right in the back of his throat and did the antibiotic in a few squirts while he was complaining about it. Some dribbled out, but I was able to close his mouth before we lost it all. Luckily i only have all three meds for a few more days.

He's one and refuses anything except a bottle, lol.
Oh another trick-try blowing in his face when he is fighting it, sounds weird but it makes them startled and then you might be able to get that medicine in really quick!

I would just do a bit in the back of the cheek with lots of praise. Even flavored nothing with cover that nasty peppermint flavor. Eventually my daughter got used to it and likes it. We switched to nasty Prilosec when Zantac stopped working and she got used to that too

What I learned from my pediatric neurologist is you put the syringe in the inside of their check towards the back. While you push the liquid in simultaneously blow in their face so they're forced to swallow. It doesn't touch their tongue when you do it through their cheek. This sucks and your kid will freak but it will get easier with time. Offer bribery afterwards like juice. My daughters seizure meds are flavored but they still taste fucking gross.
That's right, I forgot! We would get the Zantac flavored. They can flavor it with grape. It's naturally mint, so some pharmacists will say that they can't flavor it, but they can use grape. I also forgot about the blowing. That worked pretty well.
Thanks guys, giving him a bottle right after helped him not let it all dribble out. I'm trying the face blowing and throat stroking for the steroids later
When DD was on Zantac, I mixed it with about 10 mL of milk in a bottle. When she was hungry, I'd give her that & then swap for a full one after she downed it. She never cared about the taste when it was in her bottle. GL!
