My husband and I are looking for a snowy getaway. The dates we plan on traveling are 2/6-2/14 from Houston.
Originally, we planned on going to Banff/Lake Louise, but I wanted to look into domestic options as well. We're looking to enjoy outdoor activities- I'd be willing to do one day of skiing, but probably no more than that. Just to give you some ideas in Banff we were wanting to go ice skating on Lake Louise, ice walking, dog sledding or horse drawn sleigh ride, snow tubing, snow mobile tour...
I would like to go to a town that has shopping (not a priority though) and good restaurant selections. We've considered Park City, Utah but the hotel costs are outrageous. Just wanted to see what destination ideas I could get from you guys.
Stowe Vermont! The area is gorgeous, and there's lots to do around there.
We just are having a crap winter so far--but you would be near ski hills, ben and jerries, could do a dog sled ride, go shopping and eating in Burlington, etc. It really is beautiful, we just don't have a lot of snow right now.
Jackson Hole is AMAZING, but pricier to get to.
You could also do Lake Tahoe. Even if you don't want to ski all the time there is tons to do. All of the ski villages have skating, you could take the trams even if you are not going to ski. There are tons of snowshoe and cross country rentals as well, and lots of shopping and dining. Reno would be the closes airport, about 40 minutes from North Shore. You might get cheaper accommodations on the South Shore because they are all connected to the casinos.
PM Me if you want more details--I currently live in Vermont but used to live in Lake Tahoe, and have been to CO, WY and UT a few times for skiing and outdoor vacations

Lucky you! We went there for our honeymoon, and went back one more time on our 5th anniversary. We love the Stowe area, and we traveled all over the state while we were there! Hopefully you'd have more snow by the time she wants to go in February.
I didn't think about Lake Tahoe... That's a great option! Thanks for the ideas listed above, I'll add them to our list and start doing some more research. Whichever location we pick, we're trying to book by next week. Thanks everyone!

Not sure if you booked yet but we just got back from Lake Placid and had a great time! Whiteface mountain has skiing, the downtown is so cute, great restaurants and little shops. We did a beautiful horse drawn sleigh ride. The lake wasn't frozen so our dog sled ride was at the horse track and a little lacking, but could be different by feb. we went ice skating on the Olympic rink. They have indoor and outdoor, which is nice.
Really cute area. If you are going for a long period of time you could always go over to VT too.
