DS still eats bananas cut up and rolled in Cheerio dust often for breakfast. Yes, he is able to eat a whole banana like a human being, but a) he asks for the cut up ones and b) I figure this way he's getting both a banana and a serving of cereal, so I keep making them that way.
@sing4mysavior I do that too. Especially if it's long overdue to be dealt with.
Afm, I've been asked multiple times in the last two days what characters/shows my kids like as a distraction tool. They don't. I'm considering introducing some on a regular basis next week so I have an answer to that question.
DD is 5 and I'm already over her extracurricular activities. Too bad for me on this, lol.
We are starting to run into friends not being able to hang out due to kid stuff and it's frustrating. It makes me grateful we've avoided that so far.
All DD does is dance one day a week and gymnastics. It's very manageable and nothing crazy. She loves both and dances with a bunch of girls she will go to K with next year. It's good stuff I'm just bored with it.

The only way I can eat a banana is sliced. If I try to eat it whole or pulled apart, I just gag. Idk why but it's always been that way. Bizarre.
dizzycooks - is it because they don't like TV? My DD didn't like any TV shows, but recently we discovered Puffin Rock on Netflix. Super cute. They don't love any popular characters (DS doesn't know who any superheroes are) but they both love that show. It's the only time they'll both sit there for 20 mins.
My confession is that I recently feel like I "fell in love" with my kids again. It made me realize how stuck I was getting in the frustrating daily grind. Looking at the bigger picture helped me remember how much I love them. But I feel kind of bad about all the times I'm just muddling through.
@leftie22 we just so rarely watch tv with them they don't know any of it. Of course they love Minnie and Elsa, but they have no clue about the story line, they just love the doll or coloring pages or puzzle. I never find time to take them downstairs and watch tv, it just doesn't happen. They like songs and stories on YouTube but they are usually sing alongs and require movement and dancing. Not exactly quiet calm viewing

Oh I love it. I love being busy and into the routine of i all. As nice as vacation breaks are, I love watching my kids play sports and activities. I was so excited for this week's game

My situation is different but I have been there. I had some circumstances in the fall of 2014 that threw me into a slight depression and I basically just dragged myself through. The important thing is you have bounced back and are starting again. :-)

Kid activities are pretty boring. DD is in dance and the only reason I like going is because I get to sit out in the hallway and read. The one week a month we are required to watch them is torture. A bunch of 4 year olds running around and spinning is not my idea of fun. It's cute...for the first 3 minutes.
Exactly. It's the same thing week after week. It's only fun if you have other parents to talk to.
That said I'm signing DD up for spring soccer so I guess I don't hate it that much.

DD did soccer. Soooo bad. She was stand there picking flowers and grass. It doesn't stop me from signing up for stuff. It's a part of parenting. You just push through for the kiddos
I'm not sure if I'm hoping that DD hates it or loves it. I do not love the outdoors. She loves running, is super fast, and has been talking about soccer for a year. So. We will see!

I ended up "coaching" DD's team because nobody else was available. Okay? She did the same thing. She'd only ask to go in the game of there weren't enough flowers to pick on the sideline. And she wasn't the only one lol.

That's so cute to me. I know my DS will be exactly the same. When we go out to play in the snow he spends a LOT of time just lying in the snow staring at the sky.

I love my half hour of sitting in the lobby on my phone because if you think watching a bunch of 4 year olds spinning, imagine a bunch of 2 and 3 year olds.
I am glad DD and DS are old enough to he dropped off at some activities. They both have something 3 nights a week. I do stay and watch DS at Taekwondo one night a week and a little bit of DD at cheer practice but her practice is 2 hours and the bleachers are so uncomfortable. She is at extra practice today to prepare for competition and its 3 hours. No way in hell I am sitting at the gym For 3 hours. I will go back for the last 30 minutes.
Sports get so much better the older they get. DS has played on the same soccer team for two years now and I adore the moms we do happy hour without the kids at least once a month. On the flip side DD has done volleyball with the same coach and our team split last year (the older girls moved up) all my favorite moms are gone and I don't like the ones left its torture.
I love our new dance school b/c leaving is the norm. Which is especially good since at the 4 year old's class it's mostly grandmothers who complain about their kids' parenting. And you only have to observe once a 7 week session. Though, I've actually been pretty impressed with what they accomplish.
I will say it's hard to find a balance between getting into the activities they're interested in and are good for them with family obligations, homework, church things, and our commitments. But it's not something to be avoided.
