Anyone here garden in pots/containers? Or from those topsy turvy hanging things? I would love so grow some stuff this year.
But I am in a condo so no access to the grounds but have a small deck. It gets tons of sun. Any advice on growing some herbs? I would love some tomatoes too. Do those tomato or strawberry topsy turvy things work?
I do some gardening. Growing things in pots is pretty easy as long as you get plenty of light and remember to water! I have heard that the tomato things work really well and I bet strawberry would, too, but also birds like to eat strawberries. Herbs are easy. Just plant a couple kinds in pots with a good potting mix (can buy in a bag at the garden center). Don't get real small pots--plants get big fast! Ask for advice when you go buy your supplies. I buy the starter plants in spring here in Wisconsin for parsley & basil. You can pretty easily grow basil from seed, too, but if your growing season is short as it is here you may be better off just starting with plants. I've also grown thyme, lavender, sage, chives and oregano; some in the ground. All are easy. You are doing pots anyway but I would never plant mint, thyme or oregano in the ground again as they are hard to control and will totally take over the yard.
You could very easily do potted flowers for summer, too. SOOOOO many things do great in pots!
I legit thought you were referring to the growing of pot and was like wow, CJ haha #socalmindset
As for actual gardening, I suck at it but had very good luck with a succulent garden. Bought several small varieties at Home Depot and then arranged/planted them in a large, decorative planter. Left some space between them. A year later, all have flourished and filled in and they're even spilling over a little bit. My only success lol! I have a black thumb.
Ha ha - Same as @itsbritt - all my neighbours have "pot gardens" of a different type. After buying our house we found out the garage was used as a grow-op.
For the real question - tomatoes have done really well for me as long as they're in a sunny spot and have something to support the vine. I've also started strawberries and chives in pots and they did well enough to transplant into larger pots/into the garden. If you've got a lot of sun, go for it!

I do cherry tomatoes in a pot and put a tomato cage around them from the beginning. I'd do basil too just because caprese salad is awesome! My basil plants always get huge so give them plenty of room. I've had luck with bell peppers and jalapeƱos in pits so you could get a good start on some tasty salsa by adding a batch of cilantro. Parsley is something I mix into my flower pots too, it adds interest and grows easily. All of these require lots of sun and lots of water. That's my biggest problem with container gardening. You have to water at least daily, sometimes twice. I've killed lots of things because I'm lazy.

Ditto everyone else in that I assumed you meant growing pot lol! I managed to kill an aloe plant because I watered it too rarely, so you might not want my advice.

I'm living in Amsterdam right now, so yeah, I read this title a different way...
I've gardened in containers before with mixed results. I think I did ok with tomatoes once, and I've had good years with herbs. I also tried mini eggplants one year and while they did grow, they tasted awful. Whatever you grow, research the water and sun requirements. I didn't do that enough.

Never tried it, but you can put me on the list of people who have killed cacti in the past. I've considered trying to grow a little herb garden, but I hate bugs and dirt, so I just kind of can't get that excited about it.
