I ended up reading books in 39 of the categories. I didn't try super hard to match most books, but some I did pick specifically (e.g., the book written in the year I was born, book I started but never finished, book of short stories).

I did actually finish. I ticked off every category. I tried to do it with only books I already owned, not buying any new ones, but I ended up buying the book released in 2015 and a few more for my Kindle. I kind of feel I cheated on the graphic novel, but I'm not too bothered by it -- I'm not a fan of graphic novels anyway, so it was low down on my priority to get perfect.
I really found the challenge made reading more of a chore than more enjoyable and while I ended up reading 71 books over the course of the year, I felt as though I read more after I ticked off all the tasks than during. I certainly enjoyed my reading more when I wasn't reading to task or feeling rushed to get the book finished.
It was a worthy experiment, but not one I have to repeat. This year I'm just reading what I want to, and trying to focus on getting through the physical books I own but have not read. But then again, I'm several books behind on a number of my series and I have $250 worth of gift certificates at Amazon, so I think physical book splurge is in the near future. And now that the holiday postal rush is over, I think it's safe to order the books without worry they'll go missing or get horribly delayed.
Oh, that's too bad it made it feel like a chore! Mine didn't, but maybe that's because I didn't really care if I hit every single category. As I said, there were a few categories that I picked up books for, but most of them I still really enjoyed. I think I only felt like one was a chore, and then I just didn't bother getting books that I didn't want to read that would fill the other categories.
The graphic novel one is an interesting one since I didn't check that category and I never read graphic novels, but in December I was looking into options for the challenge and found some that looked really interesting. I didn't get around to any of them but I might actually try to pick up one or two for 2016 just for fun!
I definitely want to get through more of my physical books and series I have started, but I'm still going to look for a good challenge to help me pick out audiobooks from my library (I refuse to buy them for the most part).

I participated in that same challenge with a couple friends, although I only made it through 24 books last year.
A friend and I are actually doing the 2016 pop sugar challenge aurora posted as well and I fully intend to getting through it this year! I'm still getting back into reading after not making the time to read for the last 4 or so years. I'm horrible about picking out books and although it sometimes seems to be a chore, I ended up reading several really good books that I normally would have never chosen. I doubt I'll do another one next year (2017) though.
