My best friend in elementary school was Alice Paul. Not the suffragist though. I'm old but not quite that old.
The first couple of times I clicked the link on the AlicePaul.org website I came up with an error. The third time was the charm. I'm hoping the first two were because traffic was so high the site couldn't handle it.
How did we not study this woman in school? She was born and died in South Jersey (I'm from SJ).
I had never heard of her until the movie about her came out--"Iron-Jawed Angels." I wonder if maybe the historical focus has been on Susan B. Anthony instead because 1) Alice Paul's organization was much more aggressive and 2) it maintains a sense of tokenism.

You didn't? We did. We went to her house multiple times.
I grew up near the Shore, so not exactly her neck of the woods. But yeah. I remember studying other suffragettes. Fourth grade was NJ history but I don't remember her coming up. I think we talked more about the Jersey Devil.

Makes sense. The Alice Paul house is on the border of the town I grew up in and another so it makes sense that we would have gone. Although we still had the Jersey devil history year.

If I had heard of her before the movie I did not remember. We watched the movie at work a few years ago so I know who she is now. I thought it was a good movie.
