seems like it must mean that there is no waiting period or extra tests, or counseling - you can just make an appointment, walk in, and say 'Hi, I'm here for the abortion"
I think the anti abortion crowd often uses the term to characterize the position that the right to terminate a pregnancy/have access to an abortion should be absolute - legally available whenever and for whatever reason the pregnant woman decides.
It means having total freedom to get whatever you want from the drive-thru abortion clinic.
Is a drive thru abortion place it like one of the drive in oil change places where the people do all the work underneath from a little pit without you ever having to get out?
I'm pro-choice, but don't find the topic all that funny. It means, as pp said, one can have an abortion at any point in their pregnancy, for any reason - you find out you're having a girl and you wanted a boy at 22 weeks - abortion is legal - that sort of thing.

I'm confused what you mean by this. You don't find black humor about the restriction of abortion rights funny because some people are awful souless asswipes?
I mean...I get that topics are connected, but not in an either/or fashion.

No - I just don't find any humor in this topic at all - and I once did. Having a child changed that for me and I struggle with my position now. At my core, I'm pretty much a Libertarian. So pro-choice makes sense to me. However I'd be lying if I said I didn't relate to the pro-life position now. I'd be lying if I said abortion didn't bother me. So, while I haven't changed my position, I also don't take the topic as lightly as I once did. Maybe you can say I am still evolving in this area.............

Is this actually happening, though? I mean are doctors actually performing these sort of procedures under these sort of circumstances? Or is there really this underground of illegal abortions going on once women find out the gender?

That is not the norm, but yes, that does happen. You have the undercover PP video stuff that does show ONE employee advising a woman on what to do if she had a girl she didn't want. Polls have shown that immigrants, in particular, will abort based on gender bias. Doctors that can and do perform "late-term" abortions are not obligated to ask why, or make a decision based on the reason. Maybe it's good, maybe not. I try not to think about. So - that term - does have some legitimacy. Some people who are pro-choice, don't agree with it. I can certainly see that. Like any other hot-botton issue - tis a slippery slope.

and if someone is willing to abort based on gender, should they really be allowed to raise a child anyway?

according to Guttmacher, 1.5% of abortions are after 21 weeks. The stat is a few years old, but now that Dr. Tiller is dead, I would imagine the number has certainly not increased.
1.5% is still a few babies - no? for somebody who is sensitive to the topic it's too many. Playing devil's advocate here - if childhood hunger is your issue, would even 1 child going hungry be OK? That's why I get the other side on this issue at this point in my life.

You get that most of those are abortions for medical reasons, right?
