So, being totally new to the area (we're coming up on our first anniversary here!) we don't have it all cased yet.
When we moved in, I remember the landlords talking about "pest control" but never thought about it again.
But over the last while, I've noticed lots of pest control trucks around the neighbourhood. Now, our neighbourhood really, really likes to hire people to do stuff. All of the traffic during the day is from landscapers and painters and handymen and so on - this is not a DIY kinda neighbourhood and it's remarkably well kept (or the neighbourhood newsletter shames you...and includes your exact location...sometimes address).
So, I don't know whether regular pest control is a thing that should be done or whether it's just our neighbourhood spending money for the sake of it? We're not super friendly with our neighbors and I think I'd feel awkward asking "so...got bugs?" outright. ;D
Do you find you have a problem with...well, anything? Is this a part of regular maintenance that we just don't know about?

We haven't ever used a pest control ourselves, but we have with our rental. Our tenant was complaining about ants (which undoubtedly come from her lack of cleaning) so we've been springing for regular pest control for her. DH deals with it so I don't know exactly what they do, I just see the statements
I've never known it to be part of "regular maintenance", but have heard of it being used to target something. When I thought I saw a mouse at my house, I called a few places, and all the places offer monthly service, but I really don't know what that covers, other than routinely setting new traps.
We don't have someone come out regularly, but deal with spiders as needed. I've only known 1 person to have their property sprayed regularly for bugs, but she was really, really, really afraid of spiders and bugs.
I know in AZ it's really common, but that's mostly to deal with the yucky scorpions. I've only dealt with pest control in an infestation situation like pp's have said.
We have people come out ever 3 months to spray around the house. I guess you could say we live in a wooded area and we were having a huge issue with spiders and such. H found a few "bad" spiders so we decided to call around. We are actually using the same company our neighbors use. The price isn't bad at all and, knock on wood, haven't had any issues since they've started spraying.
The nice thing is all of their stuff is safe for pets and people.
Okay, good - wondered if we were being slowly invested by something we didn't know about being new to the area.
We do have an ASSLOAD of spiders. I've never seen so many spiders. We're out in the 'burbs, so not wooded, but tons and tons of green space all through the area. On Cougar Mountain.
And flying things - long legged flying things, moths, giant flying beetles...blech! I've never lived somewhere without screens on the windows (so the bugs stay outside) and I admit to having become a pretty big suck when it comes to bugs!

Hmmmm...I bet that's what our landlords were doing as they also mentioned spiders.
It didn't occur to me that you could spray for spiders, but I've also never lived somewhere with SO many.
They are based in Kirkland but they came down to Kent. The thing I like best is that we can call them at any time and say, "Hey I see x please come spray" and they will come out and spray for free.
