When we signed up for the software, he had to indicate his gender by clicking on a bubble. There was a "male" bubble, a "female" bubble and a third bubble next to a blank where a child could fill in their own answer. How cool is that?!

Scratch is a great place to start. If he really gets into it, check out the stuff offered by Tech Rocket and Youth Digital. Great next step - my 4th grader loves those classes!
I love that they are teaching kids coding! That's awesome.
...I love his glasses too.
I'm the tech teacher at my school and an anonymous person put an article about this in my box. I will admit it isn't my area of expertise, but the article went into how important this is and really where the work force is headed. I gave code.org a shot and it is so freaking fun. My long-term sub while I was sick had also gotten them started on coding so it was a good transition.

My kids are doing Hour of Code at their school (gr 3, and my Gr 1'er is catching on because he sees his brother doing it). I'm amazed. I think brain-pop has some coding games as well. It was what finally helped DS1 figure out that there really was a point to going to school after all, lol.
They think it's awesome because they know mom and dad don't have a clue about coding.
