Is it just me or does anyone else find that top loading washers are rougher on your clothes. In our old apartment we had an HE front loader and I didn't have any problems with stitching coming out. In our top loader (a new, HE one), I'm always having some item of clothing come out with a thread pulled out. A number of my shirts have been ruined that way. And DH's fav hiking socks. And it's not like these were cheap, low quality clothes. The first time, I thought I'd bought a dud shirt. But now I'm not sure.
My old washing machine had an agitator and it was a little rough on some of my clothes. Some of my more delicate things I would wash in a pillow case. Maybe that would help?
Hmmm... Well I checked and it's obviously not the old school type agitator. I don't know. Maybe the quality of my shirts was just shoddy. But they've been things from jcrew, lucky brand, madewell, macys. Those should last more than a couple months! DH's socks were rei. It's frustrating.
My new top.loader without agitate is so tough on clothes. I have to wash everything on delicate. I assume it had to do with the faster spin cycles now. They are supposed to get our the most water and so it dries faster but it destroys my stuff. And I don't have super expensive washer so there is no option to turn off the super spin.

So I wash in delicate. Seems to work.
Yes, this. Just got a new washer and I figured out real fast that the default super spin was too rough for anything but towels.
I've had front loaders at both the houses I've owned, and I don't love them. Things don't get really clean, and no matter what you do, they always seem to stink. A repair person told me it's just the design of front loaders in general. Water sits in them so they tend to stink. I think laundry just sucks, no matter what.
