My 11-day-old has what appears to be a cold in his eye. He has a stuffy nose and this morning woke up with a gunky eye. I've been wiping it out with a warm cloth each time he wakes up, but I assume there's nothing more I can do. Is this something I can just keep an eye on, or is it worth a call into the pedi nurse line?
The eye is probably a blocked tear duct. Just wipe with a warm washcloth. You can squirt breastmilk in the eye too, can't hurt and may help keep bacteria away. Usually the tear duct gets unblocked as the baby grows and everything, including the duct, gets larger. Dd2 had one for 6ish months.
The stuffy nose I would keep an eye on and call the ped if it worsens or other symptoms develop.
Could also be a plugged tear duct. My DD had own until she was about 6 months old and grew enough to unblock it. It's totally benign but some people have success with gentle pressure to the corner of the eye with a wake wet cloth. It was annoying because that eye was always a little goopy or had stuff in it--I was constantly wiping it until one day it just stopped!
Duh, I hadn't even thought of a tear duct! Thanks mannah and page.
The stuffy nose I think may partially be to my overactive letdown. I remember C being stuffy in the beginning too and the doctor thought it could be because everything is all very connected when they're itty-bitty. I remember being freaked because C once had milk coming out of his nose.
Why is my three year old all of the sudden getting into things he never has or knows not to? And putting toys in his mouth? And crushing up his food and throwing it on the floor? He barely did that as a baby or young toddler. It is driving me crazy. I feel like I have to watch him more now than I did a year ago.
Why do I need to stop giving whole milk to my 2 year old? Or is it ok? I don't think I want to give her 1% which we drink, so we have to buy 2 milks anyway. Is whole ok?
At what age can I give DD2 yogurt? Eggs? Bread products? I'm dying to give her a hunk of bread to keep her occupied while i eat my own meal. ETA she's 7 months.
Is he sneezy and hiccupy too? That and the stuffiness is all reflux symptoms.
Is just keep an eye on both the eye and the stuffies.
He's sneezed and hiccuped a few times, but not excessively so. I didn't know that about reflux, so I'll keep an eye on it. He's not a spitty baby at all, at least not yet.

My 8 mo wants to eat everything. All the time. He is pretty tiny (3%), so I'm not too worried about letting him eat, but is there a limit to how much I should let him have? He is still taking formula regularly, we've just added food to the mix. He won't over eat, right?
Also, he can't sit himself up from a laying position but can sit and crawl perfectly. Normal?

I don't think you have to stop. C was in the higher percentiles for weight, and my daycare provided free 2% (we were bringing whole), so we switched at 2 years. But I don't see why you couldn't continue. Some families only drink whole milk.

I don't recall when we did bread, but yogurt and eggs were some of the first few foods we did.
Birthday party question. Dd1 wants to have her 5th birthday at an ice skating rink. We plan to invite her preschool class + siblings, so probably 20 or so kids. I plan to pay for the skate rentals for those kids who need it (I'm assuming most). Do I also need to pay for the parents who want to skate? I'm thinking that most parents will skate...its just the way the group is...but that's another 13 or so skate rentals. At $5 each, I'm not super excited about paying for the adults and kids...but will if it's wrong not to!

DD is 3 and still on whole milk and will be for a loooooong time. Totally fine for her to stay on it.
ETA: The state of Minnesota's food program for daycare stops covering whole milk once a child turns 2. So if DD stayed on it my daycare lady wouldn't be reimbursed or I would have to bring it for her (no biggie). So at her 2 year well child check I got a note from the doctor requiring her to stay on whole milk. Now it's covered under the food program. So she gets whole at home and daycare still.

I tried all of those around 6-7 months.
Just small bites on the bread so they don't choke.
DS LOVES scrambled eggs, I put egg beaters in a mug with a little cheese and nuke for 45 seconds then cut up, he loves it

Yes, I guess I should have said that she won't be getting whole milk 3x/week at daycare. I don't know if they do 2% or 1% (I think 1) but I liked the idea of her getting whole at home to balance it out.

All of these whenever. Yogurt was my kids' first food. Bread was probably not too long after.

After 2 the need for the higher fat for brain development drops (and they're almost definitely getting more of all nutrients including fat from other sources). You can do whatever is easiest for you, like what others in the household drink. Kids on the higher end of their growth curves should probably switch to getting a lower fat milk, while kids on the lower end of growth curves should probably continue with whole. But it's not a big deal to stress over.

I asked our pedi that question at about that age and she said to let DD have as much solid food as she wants.

Anytime! We did yogurt around that age, but she had a minor (2 hives, seriously, 2) reaction and we waited to give her more. We reintroduced cheese around 10 months and she's been 100% fine. We did eggs around 10 months as well, should have done it earlier but I was nervous - but she LOVES eggs. Bread products I don't even remember. 7-8 months. Don't forget to do peanut butter and nuts!

How do you clean the straps on a booster/highchair? When DD was using her highchair, the straps came off easily, so I just threw them in the laundry when they got gross. We just switched to a booster, and it doesn't look like the straps come off on this one. She's only been in it a couple weeks, and the straps are already getting covered in grime. I try to wipe them down after every meal, but it's not getting the straps completely clean.

We've been feeding DD a ton since she started solids. I figured she wouldn't overeat, but a week ago she had massive vomiting. I think I over fed her little tummy. I dig give her eggs, but she had them at least 4x before with no issues. So I guess I'm kind of hoping it was just that she overeat. We haven't tried eggs again since then. :$

I hope this is normal because J did all of that! He is only just now slightly able to get into a sitting position at 9.5 months. He eats a ton!
What kind of yogurt do you give babies for the first time? Plain?
We do plain with fruit baby food mixed in or vanilla. Typically, we do Stoneyfield whole milk because all our stores carry it, but Publix started carrying a whole milk vanilla yogurt from grass fed cows that we use when it is on sale. Both kiddos love it. The toddler gets the flavored yo baby/yo toddler/yo kids as well as kid yogurt and adult whole milk varieties. I aim for fat, lower sugar, and no artificial sugars for both.
