Yeah, we just got notification that a level 3 moved into a nearby development. I've been sick about it for days. Someone said on our town's FB wall that she's lost 2 home sales since he moved in last month.

Well you inspired me to look at our local registry, which I haven't done in a long time. There are now 3 registered sex offenders in our very small sub division. Two for crimes against minors.
There was a story on our local CBS station talking about changes to the notification laws in MA and they used this guy as an example. When he moved in flyers were distributed in his neighborhood. The classification laws are changing so had he moved in a few weeks later, no one would have been notified (because basically they are verifying everyone's classifications). Anyway, that story led me to check out my state sex offender website. The local police station will also release that info if you go to the station and request it. You have to sign a waiver stating you won't use that info to harass those people on the list.
Meh, that wouldn't phase me one bit. That could have been a text sent from a 16 year old to her boyfriend who is sadly 20 and now a sex offender.
I think this is exactly why I hate Megan'so law. It doesn't protect anyone.
BUT, it is your decision and if it makes you feel uncomfortable I completely understand. Hopefully you find something soon.
WTF?
Where fluffer lives, you can see a pic of the person, and know when they were convicted. So I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt here, and guess that she isn't getting worked up about a 20 year old getting sexts from his 16 year old girlfriend. But I'll still give you a hearty side eye for that statement alone, because I sure as SHIT would be upset if it were my 16 year old daughter, and would be positively furious at the 20 year old. Probably enough to press charges.
A 4 year old age difference isn't a big deal when you're 30 and 34. But it most definitely is when you're talking 16 and 20.

This is one of the most baffling statements I've ever seen here.
W.T.F.
Umm...what's so baffling. I saw the charge. It could've have been any number of things. Listen a fucking 16 year old can be arrested and charged with child pornography for answering and looking at a picture his naked 16 year old girlfriend sent him. This happens. The laws are incredibly slow to catch up to technology.
Sooo.....what, because I won't run away screaming from a house I like because someone is on Megan'so law, then yes, I guess that is just crazy.

Yes, please destroy a 20 year old'slife forever because your child had a stupid lapse in judgement. Please.
And, you do understand what the charge was right? I think people completely skimmed over it.
The last thing I will ever do is trust Megan'so Law. The hardcore offenders are doing 40-60 and the odds of a child being molested by a complete stranger is around 5%. Most are family, friends, or acquaintances so I personally am more concerned there. And, figuring a large majority go unreported I can safely say, unfortunately, we all have crossed paths with many offenders.
BUT, if someone doesn't feel comfortable in am not going to knock them. I have a very different view, due to my career and that's okay too.
ETA: There is a person on the registry who lives on my block. He's been here longer than I have been and has been nothing but cordial. He mostly keeps to himself and his family. But I understand anyone who would be cautious. I just didn't think to check before. And then, I already knew "George".

Nothing wtf about this at all. Sorry.
Yeah. Because a neighbor never becomes a friend or acquaintance.

Yeah. I googled that charge. It could be an unfortunate charge against a young man. It could also be much, much worse.
So, I'm just going to Michael Scott it on out of here.
You are right. It could be something much worse or what I wrote before.
I say again that I know I come from a very different viewpoint. I have dealt with the worst people alive who I wish would rot in hell and the opposite, those facing mandatory registration for my example above which have destroyed lives, unnecessarily so.
I get people feel uncomfortable and that is their right. I just have a different way at looking at it.

You are missing the point. And, acquaintances usually encompass date rape scenarios for example. It is still more likely to be a family member.

NVM: I see there's a "the" versus "that" charge thing going on here. As unpopular as it may be, I will continue to treat my neighbor like a neighbor. Which could mean I hate him, per ML rules.

I'm not telling you to be an asshole to your neighbor who is on the registry.
OP has a young child. The charge she listed would give me pause, too.
No issues here. I just didn't understand the "that" charge when you quoted me.
Are you people really shaming her for preferring not to live near a sex offender? I know, I know, you'd be smiling cheerily if it were you. I am taking a wild guess that exceptions to the rule, like 16 year-olds texting 20 year-olds are just that, exceptions. Most of the offenders in my area are attempted rapists.

Ugh. Once I saw it, I wouldn't be able to unsee it. Especially with kids in my house.
That said, I think there are some major flaws in the system, and while I wouldn't say it doesn't protect anybody I will say it us a very, very imperfect system.
That sucks and I understand why you wouldn't want to buy that house.
We had an opposite situation, a new neighbor moved in who served time for child molestation. Obviously I was upset and worried but it wasn't like we could pack up and move. After a while I realized we don't know what our neighbors might be hiding, but I have the information to know to keep away from this one. When you think about all the sexual abuse crimes that go unreported and the many that served time before the registry came into law, there are many more offenders out there that we don't know about. This one we do.
