Sectional or reclining? I have a relatively small living room and want something comfortable. What would you choose? We have a standard sofa now and need something different
I have a sectional with a chase on one end and an ottoman/coffee table. I love it! It doesn't take up a lot of space, but can still seat 4-5 comfortably.
If you are looking for comfort over style, get reclining. They look bulkier but wouldn't a sectional take up more space? At least with the reclining sofa, it wouldn't always have to be reclined so it wouldn't take up as much room all the time? I work for a furniture company and reclining sofas are our super popular right now.

The sofas that recline wear differently than regular ones. We have one that does and it isn't as comfortable to lie on end to end as it once was. And the recliner hasn't held up as well as I think it should. However, we have moved it quite a bit. Each time it has been a bitch to move and it doesn't really move well at all.

For aesthetics, definitely sectional! For comfort, I would still pick a sectional because I like sprawling on my side, but this is personal preference- a lot of people prefer recliners. Side note, I worked in a furniture store briefly, and recliners break- alot. And the warranties sure don't cover as much as you would think.
My college roommate brought a reclining sofa, and it was amazing. It was big, but oh so comfortable. I can't tell you how many hungover days were spent reclining with Taco Bell in that sofa, each of us vegging out in a recliner. I would love to have that sofa now. I do recall it being extremely heavy and difficult to move, though.
I don't think sectionals are any smaller or less bulky than recliner sofas. Maybe easier to move, since they can be broken up in pieces? I also think sectionals really limit how you can set up your room. I don't really like sectionals. We currently just have a regular sofa and love seat, with a moveable ottoman to prop feet up.
I dunno, if you like the idea of a recliner sofa I would go look at a few and see if you find one that would fit your space.

I would shop for a new regular sofa that is more comfy. Some are wonderful. I dislike both sectionals and recliners, especially in a small room. I suppose sectional if I had to choose.

We got a sofa and love seat set that reclines a few months ago and I love it. Ours aren't as bulky and puffy looking as most recliners, and they don't take up a ton of room because the slide forward and down as they recline instead of straight back. The sofa sits with its back just an inch from the wall.
I feel like we have a great balance between aesthetics and comfort.
Have you gone to look around at options yet? You may be surprised at what you can find.
