Or hire someone? We have concrete in the basement. And we were thinking of doing something nice with concrete paint. We don't want to do wood or carpeting because of potential flooding. Already flooded once because of a broken washer.
I would hire someone. Painting a floor sounds like a bitch. I'm just envisioning how thoroughly you would have to clean it to make sure the paint wasn't filled with little pet hairs and random debris, you know?
I have had my basement office floors done. Mine is a workshop so it is not fancy like living space. But they did come in and sand the floors so they were nice and smooth before they painted. It also picked up all of the dust. The owners of a shop I used to work at did it themselves. It turned out ok.
I did my own several years ago with concrete floor paint. I admit I kinda winged it and it never really felt finished. I could feel the grit with bare feet and it bugged me alot. We tiled over it.
Our church painted the floor with an epoxy type treatment and it is gorgeous.
All this to say definitely do your research if you DIY or hire a pro.
