Anyone have experience flying with Frontier? They just added a bunch of new nonstop routes, a few of which look interesting to me. I noticed that they charge for carryon luggage. Is there anything else I should know about them? Anyone love or hate them?
It's a low cost airline - they charge for everything! But bags that fit under your seat are free.
It's totally fine. They fly routes on certain days so if they are, going where you want, when you want, it's a good option. The fares can get dirt cheap.

I've flown them once, they charge for everything and the seats are extremely uncomfortable. They get horrible reviews but our flight with them was fine.

Ok but what is "everything"? I'm trying to think of other things, and I can't. Lol
I'm a pretty no-frills girl. I usually fly SW. SO I'm not concerned about lap of luxury. But I was paranoid they are tiny tin can planes with cokehead pilots or something.
I flew with them a couple times before they went the way of Spirit and started charging for EVERYTHING. Every time I flew with them I had massive delays.
The one time I flew on frontier, I got stuck in the smallest seat ever next to a man with personal space issues and BO. But that's not frontiers fault ha.

We've flown with them a bunch. They charge to pick seats at check in, for premium seats, drinks and checked bags. I wouldn't fly them any great distance, but for short flights they're absolutely fine as long as you know what you're getting.

I used to be a Frontier frequent flier. It's gone way downhill fast.
As others have mentioned, they charge for everything. Bags (checked and carry on), seat selection, drinks. They've even started soliciting tips for the flight attendants when you purchase a drink. Wtf.
They also made the seats on most planes thinner (less cushion) and the tray tables are half size (unless you're in the first few rows).
I actively avoid them unless they are cheaper (all in) by quite a bit.
They charge for bags, for drinks, for seat assignments, for printing boarding passes at the airport. I just say no to everything, pack in a tote bag, and get where I'm going for cheap!

Southwest is nothing like Frontier. Southwest is easy and they try. Frontier is miserable. They charge you for anything except water. They don't do precheck, they don't do mobile boarding passes, charge you for everything, they never have enough staff and the staff they do have are nasty. We flew them to Costa Rica and back and the discrimination was awful. They tried to get a Latino man arrested because his bag was leaking. Only it wasn't his bag. It was the drunk white people in front of us. They never apologized for making him leave his seat and have all his stuff bagged and trashed.
ETA again. Lol. I flew Spirit recently and they did charge for EVERYTHING including if you wanted to print a boarding pass at the airport. But they still got me and my daughter to visit my grandma for EIGHTY AMERICAN DOLLARS ROUNDTRIP. and free car seat check. I probably would have attached myself to a wing for that price. But really it was lovely. Comfy seats and all.
Yeah, I'm looking at $303 for ALL THREE of us to see my family. Nonstop, so no layovers or missed connections to worry about. And no drive that turns into 18h long. Lol
Frontier is fine. Just make sure you're aware of the costs to check and carry on bags. They're not so different than any of the other airlines charging for baggage now. Though I do think they charge for sodas and the like.
They f'ed up 3/4 of our flights. I'll never use them again. They didn't even know where their metal was going. Told us we'd miss our connection in Denver to Seattle. Well not sure how we could miss a connection on the same plane. Got stuck in Denver waiting for the next flight. Lost our bags. Then on the way back lost our seat assignments that we'd paid for and were dicks and lied about it. Had enough miles for a free flight - you could t pay me enough to use them.
I just discovered them, and I'm so excited. We just scored 2 roundtrip tickets to Denver for $188 total (probably half the price or more than any other airline). I'm hoping it's not a terrible experience, because I'm already planning trips in my head of where I want to go next for wicked cheap!

I'm always lured by their cheap fares, and then by the time I do seat selection, a carry on bag, and print my boarding pass, it's the same or more than another airline.
Also if you book them through a travel site like Expedia, it excludes those extra costs. So it looks cheaper, but add another x dollars a person when you go to fly.
We flew them once last fall. It was just H and I, no kids so I wasn't too worried about delays or any other catastrophes. Couldn't beat the price, even with the baggage fee added, and the direct flight schedule they had worked out best compared to all other airlines. We had no issues. They were even super accommodating when I called to switch a baggage fee. I originally paid for two bags on our departing flight and then we decided to share a bag, so they moved the second pre-paid amount to our return flight. Sounds straight forward, but I expected push back because of the type of airline. It wasn't a problem at all.
I almost always fly Frontier out of Denver for work. I stick to the not-cheapest fares where you can take a carry-on and a checked bag, and the flight is refundable plus I get better seat choice options and boarding priority. They still stripped down that option (you no longer get a free drink), but it works for me. I book directly through their site, so I avoid some of the fees they tack onto third party fares.
The last time I ran into an issue on a direct flight from Denver to Dallas and they lost my bag -- only mine, out of the entire plane of people. SIGH. It was an utter PITA. But that was the first time I'd had a bag issue with Frontier.
I do agree that they have definitely moved toward nickel-and-diming you for everything, and I think it's dumb that they don't have mobile boarding passes yet. But I avoid some of that by opting for the slightly more expensive fare, which is still less than comparable options on other airlines.
I feel like they charge for everything right down to your drink. It's been a little over a year since I've flown with them though. I think they might even be strict with carry on's so make sure to check up on that.
I might have just been lucky but the crew I had on my flights were excellent. I was very impressed.

We tried flying them in June for a wedding. They delayed the plane for four hours, then cancelled it at 3pm. By that time there were no other Frontier flights to Detroit we could take, and they couldn't put us on another plane till Sunday (we were leaving on a Friday), so we would still miss the wedding. They would only give us a $200 credit per person to fly on another airline, and by that time all other flight were at least $700 a person, so we were talking about an extra $2000 on top of what we had already paid to get where we needed to go. Never again.

I tried to fly them and once and they cancelled the flight. They never notified me and didn't rebook me. I figured it out when I checked the status. When I called to rebook I was on hold for 45 minutes. I ended up just buying a last minute fare on Southwest cause I had ni faith in Frontier.

I've never had problems and I fly them a lot. I always carry on luggage and I don't care where I sit in the plane, so that's probably a big part of it for most people.
Freaking airline industry lol. My inlaws fly them all the time b/c there is a direct flight to our area from a regional airport that is closer to them than driving an hour to an hour and a half to the major airport. Believe me when I say it was truly horrible they wouldn't use them regardless of convenience or cost - my MIL is the pickiest person on the planet.
All of what everyone said they have found to be true -- upcharges for EVERYTHING, seats not as comfy. But safe and fine for short, direct flights.
