What do you use to store kid artwork? I have a ridiculous stack of stuff from 5 years combined of school for two kids. Need a better way to store besides stacked on a closet shelf.
I don't know. Struggling. DD1 is a very prolific artist and wants to keep EVERYTHING. I was throwing artwork into plastic tubs under their beds, but I realized that the "good stuff" was getting wrecked when they would dig through it. The random scribble pages are filling it up, too. So, I got a portfolio for DD1 and am going to try sorting the true keepers into that, and then having her review the contents of the under-bed box every year or so to get rid of things. I don't know if it will work. I ordered this: www.lakeshorelearning.com/product/productDet.jsp?productItemID=1%2C689%2C949%2C371%2C928%2C391&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181113&bmUID=1453133060651
It's kind of nice b/c you can personalize for free. I had a 20% off coupon. They have similar things at other sites, too.
I have a box that stores hanging files, on file for each year. What I save goes in there but a lot of it gets thrown out. I've heard of people using it as wrapping paper if you don't want to throw it out.
Anything with glitter gets immediately tossed at school before we even get in the car. My house is a glitter-free zone. Anything amazing gets framed. Anything I like but don't want to keep I scan. I've made books from scanned artwork. Some stuff gets used for crafts, cards for family members, wrapping paper. Anything else gets tossed. DS1's teacher also keeps some of his artwork in hanging files and at the end of the year the parents use that artwork along with pictures taken throughout the year to make a scrapbook.
I don't save everything but the nice ones from art class that are bordered and anything with handprints etc I save. I bought a large art envelope/portfolio at Michaels for $10 and keep it in the back of my closet

We have "art galleries" - just a string thumbtacked to the wall with mini clothespins for clipping stuff - around the house that she can clip whatever art she wants to. The one in the dining room is where most of her school art work or paintings go - the "nice" stuff. One wall of their playroom is lined with these strings, and all the scribble pages, coloring book pages, random pieces of art go there. Once it gets full, I take anything with a handprint or kid writing and put it away in a bin to save. Some art gets put aside to be framed or used in a craft. The rest of it is surreptitiously recycled, or left up to DD to deal with. Our rule is paper needs a home; it may not be left scattered around on a table or moved from surface to surface, or it risks being thrown away. DD discovered that I was tossing some of her school papers, so she started taping her school work into a notebook to save it.
I have one of those plastic underbed Rubbermaid bins.
I also have a file box where I am keeping some of his school work like papers etc, to be able to see the progression of his writing
Thank you for this suggestion. I'm up to my eyeballs in artwork from three kids, and I just recently found soft-sided under-bed storage from Target that fits perfectly under our couches. Maybe this is what should go in there!
Um, 98% of Artwork and School Work go in the recycling bin.
I would say 99.5% here, lol. They both cone home with multiple papers a day so solely saving a few months worth would be in the hundreds. I save the sentimental holiday ones with handprints, a special one every so often, and some samples of class work to see how much they have learned/handwriting has improved maybe 2xs a year. Even only saving maybe 20 things a year per kid it's really starting to add up.
I do like the portfolio for the extra special stuff and the unserved storage for the rest. Thanks!
