We have a cat and a dog.
Cat is 3. She was rescued by my a relative along with several other cats. They were all houts away from being euthanized. I could cry thinking about now. Anyway, she's the best. She was a feral kitten aside from her ear tip you'd never know. She's cuddly and tolerant of the kids and the puppy most of the time. She likes to jump up on the piano at 2am and scare the crap out of us, tear up paper bags and steaks straws from my cups but I love her.
We adopted a puppy just before christmas. He's right around 6months. He's a little terrier mix and the cutest pup. It's a good thing he's cute becuase his puppy antics are not enjoyable. He's super smart and almost fully potty trained. He knows a handful of commands too. Also, he wears argyle sweaters.
We had guinea pigs growing up, and while I loved them then, I reeeeaaaally hope DS doesn't ask for anything like that as a pet.
The closest thing we have had to a pet in recent years is last year I bought a couple of goldfish to be part of my Persian New Year table; I bought a decent sized bowl and a little can of food and everything, expecting to keep them as pets after the holiday was over. It...did not last long. They are now in the pond behind our house (living wonderful lives, I'm sure).
I want to say my dog is turning 3 on Mother's day. The black and gray cats are 8. The little black and white is just over a year old. They all were going to a shelter if they didn't find homes.

I had guinea pigs growing up. They're so messy. My grandma made me bedding catchers that had elastic on them and went around the bottom of the cage. It helped a bit bur yeah, I'm also a no small pet person. I will blame it on the cat.
Lily- will be 6 in May. She's a 7lb long haired mini dachshund. Very diva like.
Leia- will be 5 in April. She's a 20lb long haired doxie. She's a happy girl but has Eyore's personality from Winnie the Pooh.
Kellye- will be 1 in June. She's our outdoor farm dog. She's Australian cattle dog/boxer/Staffordshire bull terrier mix. Excellent outdoor dog and is great with the boys.
Lenny, Lola, Lila, and Luca- outdoor barn cats. They showed up randomly this past fall and decided to make this their home.
Between me and DH, we're allergic to pretty much everything. We were thinking of getting fish, but then my cousin gave us her fish to babysit and it died on the first day!! So now I'm terrified to get any kind of pet. It's sad, because DS and DD both LOVE cats and are so gentle with them.
We don't have any pets at the moment. We lost our chocolate lab earlier this year. I miss her, so much. We will get another dog but not for a few years. I need the kids to be older so I can make sure I have time to train the dog. Does anyone know if you can PIP from mobile?
We have 2 dogs, Quigly, an Australian shepherd who we got prekids and was like our baaaaabyyyyy. She is 7. And Hazel, who is a lab/pit/something slender mix. She is probably 5 (rescued from the desert as a pup). Quigly is smart and likes to herd the kids and hazel when we go for walks. Hazel, who we lovingly refer to as "me too" just wants to be where quigly is just in case there are snacks or belly rubs. Quigly tolerates the kids, and obviously thinks of them as part is the pack, but doesn't really want to be bothered by them (but loved when they throw the ball) Hazel is lazy as fuck and just wants to sleep in her warm bed, but will get up to run outside and help Quigly bark if she has to. She just wants to be loved and will put up with Natalie patpatting her, or Wesley groping her face just to get attention. Although she's mostly super lazy she has a very intimidating bark which is handy to ward off strangers
Lilly is an 18 month old lab mix. She's very excitable and sometimes a little rough with DD, but she's great with the boys and super smart. She's driving me a little crazy right now, because she has a ton of pent up energy but hates the cold. When I take her out, she barely steps off the porch to do her business then runs back inside.
Our guinea pigs, Strawberry and Patches, are 3 years old. We got them while we were still renting and couldn't have a dog because DD was begging for a pet. They don't love to be held, but the kids like to pet them and feed them fruits and veggies.
Honestly, I'm a cat person, but DD and I are both allergic.

We have two cats, both almost 11 years old. I rescued Kona from the street when she was a tiny kitten who was stranded outside the school district offices. A homeless guy was trying to feed her milk from a torn little paper cup, and when I stopped to "aww" over her tininess, he asked if I wanted to keep her because I could probably take better care of her. I had a $20 in my wallet and gave it to him, and I took her home. Two years later, Abby appeared one winter evening on the school campus where I taught. I taught an after school class, so I was there late, and she was howling so loud that I could hear her from across campus. I stepped out of my classroom and called "kitty kitty kitty" and she came running up to me and rubbed and purred and rolled all over the floor. It was Friday and I had a bunch of errands to run on the way home and couldn't take her with me, and I felt awful about it, but I put a bowl of water outside the door for her and told myself that if she showed up again I'd bring her home. I got back to school on Monday and she was sitting attentively at my classroom door. So I let her inside, and she curled up under the little 3' Christmas tree I had in the room, and I ran and got food for her when I had a chance. Stopped at the vet on the way home to scan her for a chip and get tests done to make sure it was safe to bring her into a home with another cat, and then she was ours. I put some flyers up around the school's neighborhood, but no one ever claimed her.
All these years later, I'm so annoyed with both of them that I swear on my life I'll never get a pet again
If my allergies were more manageable, I would probably have a cat anyway. But even on daily meds, I have a pretty severe reaction to cats.
That makes me sad, I'm sorry. I grew up with cats and I think I built some immunity or something. Of course I am allergic to a lot of things, so I would need antihistamines with or without cats.
