My car was totaled last week and I went car shopping yesterday. I really like the Nissan rogue, but I am not sure it is big enough for luggage and baby stuff (we are TTC). It would mean no car payment for me if I got the Rogue. If I went bigger, it would be the Highlander which would mean a car payment but I did really like it. Thoughts? How much stuff could you fit in your Rogue?

I used to have a 2011 Rogue. It was plenty big enough for 2 kids (convertible car seat and high back booster seat) and 2 adults and luggage when we traveled. I adored that car and was one of my favorites. I'd get one again!
What luggage and baby stuff do you need? I mean, do you take a lot of road trips? I have a Jetta and that is fine for short weekend trips to Austin and stuff like that with one kid (and we could take our two small dogs if needed.
I wouldn't buy a larger car for infrequent trips.
My ILs live 7 and 8 hours away, so we roadtrip there every 2-3 months. We also roadtrip to different parts in TX a couple times a year too. My car will be the primary family car.
My mom has one. I think it would be large enough. We road tripped with it to Louisiana at Christmas. The back was full of luggage and Christmas gifts, the basset hound had the back seat to herself. It was easy to back, comfortable for a 12 hour trip, and pretty good gas mileage.
Have you driven one? I seemed to have a lot of blind spots in ours, but I know not everyone has that problem. It fit 2 kids and their stuff just fine.
I test drove one yesterday. It did have the blind spot monitoring thing on it which did go off on me when I was trying to change lanes.
Didn't you used to have a prius too? Im used to driving a prius
I do have a prius, yes. H used to have a rouge and really liked it, but we didn't have the blind spot monitoring. It could just be that I didn't drive the car enough to get used to it compared to my prius and that's why I had a problem. It wasn't dangerous, I just felt like I had to check all around me more often.

That's what my H had before we got the Rogue. Actually, we both had a Prius at one time. I don't really drive the rogue. I will ask my H if he has noticed the blind spot.

Make sure you also try riding in the backseat when you test drive, as when you road trip it's likely you may want to sit in the back with your infant. I wanted to like the Rogue because I liked the handling (visibility aside), but for some reason DH and I both got motion sick in the back. It almost felt like there was a small downward slope from the back to the front.
We ended up with a Forester, instead. Which if there's just the two of us and DS in the car has been plenty roomy for people and luggage, but gets real squishy as soon as you try to fit two adults and the carseat in the back row.

I had one but it was 2008 from when they had a new type of transmission and had known issues with it (it would false "overheat" in warm conditions). I took it in a 50k, 75, 99k because of said issue and then While they doubled the warranty, the last time I had an issue was 3k out of warranty. Nissan was awful to deal with. The car wasn't safe in all conditions which I needed it to be as I drive alot-mountain passes, road trips, etc. The dealership tried to help, but it was out of their hands and I got passed around and around at corporate. I wouldn't ever buy another Nissan for that reason alone. They did apparently fix the issue and the newer models/redesign 2014 + are nice, but I wouldn't do another Nissan.
I sold it and got a 2012 RAV4. I LOVE IT. LOVE. I got a v6 and the 2012 has the tire on the back, so there is SO much room inside-much more than my Rogue. While I liked the Rogue when it wasn't having a transmission issue, I now realize how much bigger than Rav4 is and they are the same class of cars. I feel it's more versatile and I can scoot the back seats up or back as I need to. Also, I feel with a Toyota or Honda, you can't go wrong.
ETA: I think the Rogue would be tight with a trunk full of stuff + baby stuff.

DH had a rogue until a few weeks ago. It was tight with 3 carseats and luggage but doable. However the blind spot thing was a major problem. I have a minivan and it was easier to drive. DH just got a Toyota Highlander so he can fit 4 carseats and he thinks it's a lot easier to drive. It is bigger but you can actually see what you're doing, unlike the rogue.

Another point is if you plan to travel with a double stroller, they take up a ton of space. I'm not sure ours even fit in the rogue, much less with other things.
I love my Rogue. It worked well for me for a family of 4, but we do not travel and take a ton of luggage anywhere. With 1 kid, you definitely have room for a lot of luggage. Our double stroller was a monster, so I could take that + groceries but I don't think I could fit that particular stroller + luggage.
I am trading up to a Pathfinder this weekend only because we are going to be a family of 5, and I want something wide enough to do 3 carseats across and have the option of a 3rd row, which I envision using more when the kids are past carseat/stroller stage.
I have a Versa hatchback, and the trunk space alone is pretty sizable. I'm sure the Rogue would be just fine for what you need, and bonus for no payment!

How in the heck did you fit three car seats in the Rogue?! I have a Murano and I can barely squeeze in the middle. Also, I was told you can't use Latch in the middle. Perhaps they changed this - mine is a 2005. And perhaps you have narrow seats. Mine are monsters.
Just something to consider if you plan to keep it long term, Nissan isn't as good/reliable long term generally as a Toyota/Honda. I have a CVT in my Murano and about 144k miles. I'm in the red zone for my transmission to go out, and my mechanic said at that point it's pretty much time to say goodbye, as they're extremely expensive to fix/replace, and my 2005 isn't worth enough to do that. I've loved my Murano, but I won't get another. Just food for thought.

I had a Prius and traded it in for a Rogue when I had the twins. The double stroller basically took up the entire trunk in the Prius. I love the Rogue. I would think we could fit a double stroller and two suitcases, assuming we didn't care about seeing out of the back window, but we're past the point of needing a stroller so I haven't tested that. We have two car seats in the back and someone can sit in the middle (or squeeze in the middle, if it's an adult). I love being higher up, and it's (obviously) better in the snow than the Prius.

We had 3 radians once DS outgrew the infant seat. Before that it was 2 radians and a chicco keyfit. We used an angle adjuster for the rf radian. I honestly don't remember if we used the latch system or not for the seats.

My BFF's DH is a Nissan Mechanic and he recommends the Rogue over the Murano. I like the Rogue and the no car payment is weighing heavy on me.
