So I need to dye my hair every 5ish weeks. A few dyes ago, I had an idea: before mixing the two bottles, I pour an equal amount (maybe a tbsp. or so) from bottles 1 & 2 into empty mini shampoo bottles, and put those away. Then I proceed as normal.
Five weeks later, instead of buying a whole new box of dye or a touch-up kit, I just pour liquid #2 from the mini bottle into #1, shake it up, and use that to do my roots, and walla - I can go another 5 weeks!
So, am I a complete genius, or does everyone do this?
Reading fail. Lemme try again. As long as you aren't mixing the chemicals I guess you could give it a try. I have never done it because it takes an entire bottle to cover my hair.

Nope, keeping the chemicals in two separate little bottles. I've been doing it the last few dyes and it works like a charm!
I always thought I needed the whole bottle too, but then I realized I was putting more on the length than I needed to, since I don't change the colour.

I don't do this but I think I should start! I have the cut that's a bob in front/pixie in back so I have like no hair. Lol. I end up wasting so much dye! I have a ton of hair so as soon as it hits my shoulders I definitely need a whole box.

This is the same problem I have. I have stupid amounts of hair and when it's long a whole box barely covers everything.
My hair is mid-length, a few inches past my shoulders. What I find is since I'm not changing the colour each time, I don't really need to coat the entire length completely each time I colour it. Or I basically just 'barely' coat the length enough to freshen the colour. I feel like I could even set aside enough for two separate touch-ups instead of one, but I don't want to push my luck.
