so looking forward to foster care stuff...how old were your kids when they outgrew the 40 lb or 43" limits? Walmart has two cosco scerenas for $85...trying to decide if i should buy one at like $50 or get two...its so hard to know what age/how many kids we'll get you know?? just trying to gauge how old a kid might be before out growing that...our two are peanuts and no where close to either limit yet at age 4...
any other reasonably priced suggestions we should consider?
Well. The answer isn't that easy. DD is 5 and is now 43" and 42 pounds. She was 40 pounds at 4. However, she outgrew her FF seat at 2.5 because she has such a long torso. We had to buy a harnessed booster at that time.

My 5 yo has yet to meet those stats.
I'm not sure what kind of seat that is, but I will say our Britax Pioneers will have the longest life and have been the most flexible for us. DS still rides in his convertible in my car, but we have the Pioneer in DH's car, and either kid can ride in it. We just raise or lower the harness straps, which you can do with one hand and without rethreading. And it eventually converts to a HBB, so it will be the seat DD uses until she's done with car seats, I assume.
No idea if that helps at all, but there you go. :-)
thanks for all the input...it helps to know its would last most kids until 4-5? (and we're currently only taking in up to 4 since our bio kids are 4..will grow that # as our kids grow)
C is 5.5 and 42 lbs (on a good day before a poop) and last measurement was 40" but I suspect he is taller now. He has out grown seats that he technically still fit because he has a long torso. If you are looking for something to fit a wide range I'd make sure it has an adjustable headrest.
Okay so I know DS hit 42" at 5 because that's when he was tall enough for a particular ride at Disneyland lol. And he got on the scale when I took DD to the pedi today and he is 39 lbs. He will be 6 in a week.

Which cosco seat are you looking at?
I think the cosco scenera is generally outgrown by 3-3.5. The scenera 40RF is outgrown FF before it's outgrown RF because the top harness slots are very low. The cosco FF harness to booster has very low top harness slots and an awful belt fit, so it's generally not recommended.
The seat I keep seeing recommended for situations where you're unlikely to know the age/size of the child is the evenflo sureride. It has the second tallest top harness slots on the market (the only taller is the britax frontier) and RFs to a reasonable size as well and it's usually under $100. The only downside to that one is that you aren't allowed to install it at a more upright angle RF and the shell is very tall, so it takes a lot of space RF (not an issue if you drive a van, but won't work in a more compact vehicle). I don't know for sure if that seat fits a newborn, but from about 6 months and up it's probably the single longest lasting seat currently available and is also very budget friendly.

I would not recommend the cosco scenera for kids of various ages and sizes. It's actally outgrown sooner FF than RF due to strap placement. It will last average kids RF to 3. And it is usually only $45.
I would look at the evenflo sureride. It's going to last ages longer. You can get a twin lack from childsource for around 120ish. Plus if you sign up for their mailing list your get $10 off first order.
Safety first guide 65 will also work well too but it diesnt fit newborns. It can be a pain to install RF and taies up a lot of room until 22lbs.
Also, IDK when you need them BRU trade jn is coming up. 25% off when you trade in an old seat. They also have a nice twin discount you can ask about.
To answer your question, DD just hit 40 inches at 4.
And if you want more specific help, feel free to shoot me a pm. I'd love to help.

I have been waiting on the trade-in event. Last year they did it the last 10 days of January so I hope it is coming up soon.
