Received an offer that is about $3,500-5,000 less than I think it should be. This position is about 10k more than I make now, but there are no benefits. They know how much I make now, but what they offered is less than what glassdoor.com and salary.com say. I received the contingent offer letter this morning and I have never negotiated since military was set. I am scared of asking too much and losing this, but I also don't want to miss out because I didn't ask..
Do I write an email back, formal letter? Should I go with the higher number and let them decide or counter? Any tips would be great. Sorry for my ignorance, this is just new to me. TIA!
Call and say what you want and why you think it is a reasonable expectation. This reason should relate to the going rate in the market for your skills. It has nothing to do with your personal needs or what a job in an unrelated industry paid you.
With my current position, I just called back and said I had been hoping to be at $X salary for this level of position, and asked whether that was feasible with the salary range for this role.
