Yes, it really is Friday already. I know it's hard to believe. Will be be spending the days curled up with a book avoiding the bad weather that is seemingly gripping most of the US?
QOTW: Do read to/share books with your children? If you don't have children, do you have memories of your parents reading to you/sharing books with you?

I am almost finished Cat's Claw by Susan Wittig Albert. I haven't been able to guess the murderer yet, and I think the main plot and the sub-plot are connected somehow so it will be interesting to finish and see if I'm correct.
QOTW: I don't have kids, but I do share books with my husband during our weekly "Story Time." And my parents were big readers. They read short books like Dr. Seuss and Richard Scarry to us at bedtime, as well as longer books like Charlotte's Web and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH on the "No TV Nights" Mom instituted when my younger brother started school. Some of my favorite memories are sharing those books with Mom and Dad -- Mrs. Frisby and The Lorax were my Dad's favorites and I have a particular fondness for them even today.
I'm reading In The Unlikely Event by Judy Blume. There are a lot of characters to try and keep straight, but so far pretty good.
QOTW: we try to read with our boys at least once a day. We've kind of gotten lax on it recently. DS1 is supposed to be reading 20 minutes a day for school. I'm looking forward to when we can read it separately and discuss or bigger books like Harry Potter together (I could read TO them now, but I think it would be a good set to have them get into and read to self too).

Not most of the US, just the eastern part that complains about snow and where most of the media is based.
I'm reading Go Set A Watchman and listening to The Red Tent. Enjoying both, for the most part.
I don't remember reading with my parents, though I was a voracious reader as a child and my parents definitely encouraged my reading. Maybe I have a bad memory? Or maybe they had me reading on my own fairly young?
I'm reading Flyaway by Suzie Gilbert. It's a memoir of her getting started in bird rehab. It's good storytelling, especially nice for someone bird-obsessed like me.
No snow for us. We might get less than an inch tonight, not even enough for a snowball.
QOTW: My family read to me literally from birth -- when I was tiny my mom would read aloud whatever she was reading at the time, and then of course moved to more age appropriate stuff as I got older. We did the same with DD; reading has always been part of our routine. She's an awesome reader and loves to read on her own and be read to,
I've made my own little reading challenge to encourage myself to read a greater variety of books. I just finished "American Gods" (Neil Gaiman) and I should receive "Interpreter of Maladies" (Jhumpa Lahiri) tomorrow. If I can't wait to start reading a new book, I've got The Beekeeper's Apprentice (Laurie R. King) in reserve.
QOTW: I don't really remember my parents reading to me, but I do remember my sister reading "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" to me. (No kids, and I refuse to read to the cats ... I'm already enough of a crazy cat lady!)

I just finished Eye Contact by Cammie McGovern I really liked this. Reminded me a bit along the lines of The Curious Incident
You never Called Me Princess ** out of 5 stars I loved the IDEA of this book , but the crap/advice in it? OMG, coming from an ED history/past, this was difficult to swallow (literally)
Just started some easy breezy reads
Maybe In Another Life Which I am really enjoying!!!
I needed something light after the past few books ive read
QOTD: I do not have children of my own, but have memories reading with my mom! <3 I loveeeeeeeeed the sweet pickle books! I dont recall, sadly, her reading to me much. As a teacher, I think this is SOOOOOOOOOOOO important, and I love childrens books and literature and really enjoy teaching it in school
Still on The Goldfinch - the book that will never end! Maybe this weekend. We will not be getting snowed in, maybe an inch, but I live where snow is expected.
QOTW: There were always books around and reading was encouraged. Remembering my grandma reading to me before bed is one of my happiest memories. My mom and I still share books.

I finished Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coastes and highly recommend. I'm going to read The Rosie Effect next. I live somewhere warm, so no snow for me.
QOTW: I read to my kids for school, etc, and DS and I read the first two HP together. As I read a lot of YA, I expect to share books with them as they get a bit older. Yesterday, I sent a YA fantasy book to my niece for her birthday that I read and enjoyed; I figure that's something useful about having adolescent taste in books lol.
I'm reading Room in anticipation of seeing the movie.
QOTW: Yes, we read a lot when I was a kid. My grandparents used to take me to the library and when I was around 3 I always used to get the Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile books!

Currently reading:
The Magician's Land by Lev Grossman Counterfeit Heiress by Tasha Alexander
QOTW: I read to the boys every day and have done so since they were infants. B is now reading a bit on his own. They both also look at their picture books all the time, independent of us. The library is one of their favorite places. They each have 2 shelves in their closets dedicated to their books. We read a LOT in our family.

I just finished We Were Liars. I enjoyed it. I have not decided what to read next. Maybe Bird Box.
QOTW: I don't remember my parents reading to me. But I always was a reader. I read to my own children all the time. They all are readers. They come a go with it. When they were in High School. I always read what ever they were assigned to read when they were reading it. It helped with discussions about the books when they were doing their homework.
I'm about 1/3 of the way through Pillars of the Earth, which I'm enjoying for the most part (the overlong descriptions of masonry and the interiors of churches are a snooze fest), BUT, it's so long that I'm having a hard time gauging how long I've been reading based on my percentage progress so I've been reading way later into the night than I intend to.
QOTW: No kids here, but I was read to a lot as a kid, and my family was constantly reading. I swear my parents house has as many books as a small used book store. We also all had magazine subscriptions and back issues were always laying around in baskets. I have one funny memory about being upset at the dentist and throwing a tantrum about having my teeth looked at, and my punishment was that my mom didn't read The Fox and the Hound to me (which was only available to me in the dentist office waiting room).
Just finished Marie Antoinette the Journey. Excellent biography! Thanks again 2curlydogs! Such a tragic story. I was telling DH about it and reading him passages and he was like "yeah, that's pretty terrible. But you're reading a dramatized, fictional account." (He knows I read mostly fiction). He was floored when I told him it was a well-respected biography and that shit actually happened!
Hi! I am in a reading rut, so I'm hoping to get back into it and start posting here more often. I'rm a middle school special eduation and language arts teacher. Currently reading The Fifth Wave.
My parents were never big readers. The one and only time I saw my dad read a book was probably when I was in high school, we handed him one while we were camping and he read it in his lawn chair. My mom read maybe 3-5 books a year, if that. However, they were more than willing to drive us regularly both to the crummy local library and to the bigger library in the next big town over.

Welcome!
And just because I am intrigued by your name here, are you Sesame Street Grover or another one, perhaps the president? the guitar designer?
I hope you can get out of your rut. I always find the Anne of Green Gables series helps me out of rut, but I can understand that might not work for everyone. What kind of books do you normally read?
I am going to be in need of new book recs here soon enough so I dropped in.
I was watching The Expanse with H and then I realized it is also a series, so I promptly primed it and started it over the weekend.
I am currently on Leviathan Wakes: James S.A. Corey. I enjoy being able to read the books to get some more background, because I was lost when the show started.
QOTW: I told H my goal is to read to our kids a book a day. Which is a reach goal, and I am only pregnant with our first. However, I figure children books are not always that long and even reading just a bit helps. I remember my mom reading to us every night and encouraging us to read.
