Lol. Fairly normal. I mean, this kind of stuff usually happens in areas where snow sneaks up on you. I obviously get snow where I live, but shitty conditions still slap drivers in the face. A few weeks ago there were 5 accidents within 15 minutes on the same spot of highway, and it didn't even snow that bad.
That many people shouldn't have been out driving. I mean, obviously, sometimes you need to go out in snow and ice (which was the problem there, the ice was probably under the snow, which made people think it was safer), but honestly, when it gets like that here, most people here just stay home. Some of those people were idiots, trying to get up that hill when they could see other people sliding around. Way to make a bad situation even worse!
Crap like this is why I essentially hibernate when it snows!
I agree with others that there was definitely ice under the snow, and several really stupid drivers. Since I never know where the stupid drivers will be, I just stay home.
Is it wrong that I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe? Full on belly cackling and tears. It was the, "oh shit, here comes another one!" in the chipmunk voice.
That said, I sure as hell wouldn't be standing on that sidewalk taking videos.
That's not from the snow, it's from ice. You can't fuck with ice.
It's definitely not normal, but it happens.
So, it just sneaks up on you? Snow tires do nothing to help? this is terrible!!
If you had studded tires, that may help. Regular snow tires, not so much. Here, the conditions need to be just right that there is a layer of ice, no plow/melt put down, and a hill. If it's icy, I avoid hills, but I live on one lol. You wouldn't see this on the highway, but side roads just don't get taken care of in most places. We had a ton of snow a couple of weeks ago, and most of my neighborhood is still ice because the dumb ass city doesn't plow, so it keeps melting and freezing.

If this was a flat road, this wouldn't happen unless people were hauling ass. This was definitely sped up big time, in real life you're just slowly creeping and usually you can steer out of it.
Like I said, not common, but not impossible to encounter.

I can't remember exactly where you lived but it's in V... Right?
If so I worked that day, in that stretch of highway, it was a freakig nightmare and the roads were not bad at all. :/
That is the weirdest video I have seen in a while. We are cracking up over here.
"He made it! He fucking made it!" Lolol.
So many stupid things are happening here. The people standing on the sidewalk. Move, ffs. The people staying in their cars. You're in a game of car dominos, get the fuck outta there. The dude in the giant white Ford. What a fucking knob. He should be banned from driving in winter.
The police here say stay in your car because it will protect you more than your clothes will if you get out and another accident happens. Lol
I grew up driving in a place that gets a lot of show, and I mean A LOT! We are famous for it! It appears that these people don't have experience driving in snowy conditions so no, I would say that this isn't normal. No winter tires etc. Makes a big difference.

Yep. We were driving home from ice fishing that day and just passed the first accident. It was a crazy day.
I love that the Cadillac just breezed on through. I've never seen anything that bad where I live, but there's a giant hill not far from my house where a mini-version of the video happens every couple of years. People are so dumb when it comes to driving in snow and ice.
ice under snow is the worst. I have snow tires, and generally know how to drive in the stuff having lived in the north my whole life. But, last weekend I went to stop at an intersection behind a car, and my car just did not stop. I was able to get around the car in front of me and coasted into the intersection. Thankfully there was no one coming through. It was incredibly scary. I drove past the intersection 1 hour later and there was a telephone pole down, and the city was sanding/salting the road. Someone else wasn't so lucky.
Actually, something like this happened a few years ago to my il's neighbour. They live on a hill and their road is almost never plowed. Anyway, the neighbour across the road slid backwards into another neighbour's cherry tree, which was right in front of her kid's bedroom window.
Oh, and years before that h was leaving his parents street and couldn't stop for the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. He slid into someone's bushes.
So I guess when I'm saying it's "normal", I'm thinking of this particular area in town.
