I hate Chris Christie but lets not make fat jokes about him.
No intention to make fat jokes, just comment on how unhealthy he looks and that he looks a lot heavier than he did last year when he was "considering" a run.

i didn't see this as a joke.
i think he has lately, but he had shed a couple (from what i've heard) and maybe he gained it back?
listen, i don't like this guy one bit. i can not like someone and be concerned about his health at the same time. i don't want anyone to drop dead from something preventable.
I think a woman who was as fat as Christie would have a hell of a time getting elected. Has there ever been a comparatively obese woman as a governor/senator? Bailey Hutchinson was a little plump down there in Texas, but not to that degree.
" Kay Bailey Hutchinson is thin. Are you thinking of Ann Richards who was more "maternal" looking (BTW I saw her shopping at Talbots once. Swoon)
He did look like he gained weight. I am sure losing weight is a struggle for him as it is for many other Americans, so I'm not going to judge.
Septimus can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think her point is more that if, say, Ann Romney looked like she recently gained 20 pounds, there would be much more discussion about it in the media.

Now I'm trying to figure out which came first: my love of Ann Richards or my love of Talbots.
As for Christie, really, I'm not going to judge without being privy to his full medical history. (The sweating thing, for example - my H is on a medication that has a side effect of excessive sweating. If you saw him sweating, you might assume that it's due to his weight, but he didn't have this problem before the medication.)
I'm not going to judge Christie's weight when there are so many other, more relevant things to judge him on.
That said, it is completely fair to point out that if he were a woman, his weight would have completely preventing him from getting anywhere near the national spotlight.
I wasn't judging his weight as much as I was judging his ill fitting suit jacket. I liked his tie choice though.
His weight as an elected official could be a concern from the health aspect. He has pretty severe asthma and was hospitalized because of it in the not too distant past.
Interesting someone should mention Taft - he was known for being totally rotund, right? My MIL and husband were being dorky and trying to remember the order of all the presidents last night, and in looking up Taft, the few photos that existed reflect him as being quite overweight - obese certainly - but not all that shocking looking compared with many folks out there today. I'd be curious as to what his weight actually was.
ETA: this site www.doctorzebra.com/prez/g27.htm puts his weight at between 300-340 while in office. He was just shy of 6 feet tall. Pretty similar, actually, to my brother's size before he lost weight. TBH, I think Christie has him beat. Do I think his weight disqualifies him from being an elected official? ABSOLUTELY NOT. But, I agree that on a woman it would be career suicide.
