-how many days did you abstain before IUI? Does it matter like it did for SA? My nurse didnt say anything. -For trigger shot, its an IM shot, and she said it needs to go into thigh or lower hip/butt. Any recommendations? I am fine with Sub-Q injections, but am worried about the IM one.
We abstained 2 days before IUI just like for SA but we are dealing with low sperm count/low motility. I can't help with the trigger shot because I always have done mine in my stomach.
We've been told to abstain 2-3 days before the IUI; it is similar to an SA because they want to make sure your H's sample has a good count.
All of my triggers have been sub-Q. The package on my last trigger (hcg) actually said it was IM but they gave me a sub-Q needle and my nurse said they usually recommend doing it sub-Q. I've never had to do IM shots so no advice, but it sounds like a lot of ladies here like to ice before and some find it easier to have their SO administer the shot.

I did the trigger IM. I haven't done PIO, but it sounds like the trigger was a lot easier. I was a little sore afterward, but it wasn't a big deal. DH and I watched some youtube videos beforehand, I laid down face-first on the bed, and he gave me the shot. The shot itself wasn't painful at all.

Thanks all. I called my nurse phoneline and left a message to make sure.
Next time I am asking for the HCG brand that is sub-q, bc that is so much easier than IM. I got the Noverel brand. I think the one that starts with O is subq
For IM, they gave me this drawing of where PIO needs to go. You put your index finger on your hip bone, then wrap your thumb around your back, and do it there, above the butt crack.
We were told to HIO on trigger night, but H has count issues, and I can't remember now if we listened or kept it more like 2-3 issues. I'm no help!
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

We abstained 2 days before the IUI. We only did a trigger shot once for the IUI, and I got that done in the office (it was IM). The other two we didn't use a trigger since I ovulate on my own with no issues and I had an LH surge naturally. Bloodwork confirmed ovulation, so we never spent the extra money on the trigger shot.
For IVF, we did an IM trigger shot. I did what cactuscookie did...laid down face down on the bed, and DH gave it to me. It was painless and I wasn't sore after. My RE doesn't do sub-q trigger shots...not sure why, but I have asked and was told they don't like them.
They said no longer than 5 days and no less than 2. DH hates that part but I'm always telling him when he needs to "clean the pipes" LOL. Also, watch the video on freedom pharmacy website for IM injects. It's very helpful. Where you put the needle isn't actually in your butt which I think is where most people go. It's more towards the outside closer to hip (but not in the hip) and at the very top of the butt.

We usually abstained for maybe two or three days? I didn't like going longer than three, and was ok with only one or two since you get the wash and that helps things along. For the IM trigger, it really isn't bad at all - I did it in my upper butt/hip and just sort of leaned over the bathroom counter and H did it really fast. It's a small needle so I barely felt it. And I think instead of ice I might use heat if you are worried, I just think it's comfier. There are a lot of good online videos to watch if you/your H is nervous.
Depends on your H's sperm count but we had sex 1.5-2 days before our (successful) IUIs so about the same time we triggered. My triggers were also stomach ones.

I don't remember exactly, but I think about 3 days. For us, we couldn't do it too soon before IUI or H's count was poorly affected. We were also told to have sex the night of the IUI to try and get even more sperm up there.
For IM injections, my nurse drew a bullseye on my hip/ass. I lean over a table and put all my weight on my other leg while H injects.

We typically abstained for 2-3 days leading up to IUI date to build up his numbers. Then, we had sex the evening after the IUI and the next day.
On my bfp cycle, I wasn't expecting to O so early (no trigger) so we had sex the on the night of day 10, I got a solid smile the afternoon of day 11, and we had IUI the morning of day 12. So only 1.5 days to build up his counts. They were the lowest we had seen up to that point - but it didn't matter.
