1. What constitutes a "big" purchase? I am planning to get an iPhone in two weeks. Something in the 4+ figures, I'm not sure. We have spent a lot of money on house stuff in the past two years (new living room furniture, bathroom reno, new mattress) and are laying low for awhile.
2. I am super excited for my first smart phone!!
3. Whoring, definitely.
If you can wait another month, the iPhone 5 will be out. I'd wait for that.

-what's your next big purchase? Super large water tank and plumbing services to install it and to complete plumbing needed for a basement bathroom
-are you excited about it? Having more than a 1-toilet-flush-sized water supply? Oh, hell yeah. And getting the basement finishing started means one more step to selling this house, so double-hell-yeah
-are you paying cash, financing, whoring yourself out for it? Cash--been saving a percentage of my bonus money for a couple of years to build up the cash for it. After the bathroom is done, I might have to resort to a showercam (in the new shower) to pay for the drywall for the rest of the basement
We are spending money to make our basement a walk-out - we'll be adding a third ac, moving an ac, digging out the egress to make it larger, adding stairs and stone walls to it, enlarging a landscape bed, adding extra sump(s) and a generator, and adding a walkway from the existing patio to the steps. All cash.
DH wants a big screen and projector for the downstairs family room, so probably that. We'll pay for it out of our "fun money account" where we make monthly deposits for big purchases like this.
I was supposed to get a treadmill for Christmas last year, but my old one keeps hanging on....so I'll probably get a new one at some point, but I'm too cheap to pull the trigger right now.
1. A new (likely pre-owned) car for me, in about 6 months.
2. Sort of excited. It will be nice to have a nicer car (I've been driving an '01 Grand Am since '03) but I am a bit change-averse.
3. Depends on what the rate is for financing. We'll save the money so we can pay in cash if we choose. But I might finance part and use that money toward DH's student loan (6.8%).
-what's your next big purchase? We're getting close to booking a cruise through the Panama Canal
-are you excited about it? Extremely excited!
-are you paying cash, financing, whoring yourself out for it? We'll be booking it with a credit card, but paying it off immediately. I supposed there will be some whoring; it is my 10th anniversary trip.
-Probably a DSLR, but I may need a new laptop if mine can't be fixed
-Sort of, DH really wants a DSLR after our Alaskan cruise for the baby so he can take lots of pics, I don't know where this photographer gene came from suddenly
-Both will go on a cc for cash back and then paid off

--I just ordered a Nordic Track elliptical. --I am excited to be healthy, not so excited that I will actually have to use to make that happen. --It went on the CC and will be paid off at the end of the month

-what's your next big purchase? Well we have an OOT wedding we're going to. Not sure if that counts as a purchase. Other than that MH needs a new car pretty soon.
-are you excited about it? Wedding yes. Car yes and no. He needs it and wants a nicer car. Cars are just so much money.
-are you paying cash, financing, whoring yourself out for it? Wedding - cash. Car - Financing. Although maybe I get some money on the side......
I don't know if we really have anything on the horizon. We need a new bed, we might be getting a king as an "us" Christmas present. But if it comes to it, a baby/fertility treatments will probably be our next be purchase, unfortunately. Depending on what we have to do we will probably have to finance it.
We are having some painters come in and freshen up our so before we put iron the market. Normally I DIY painting but I don't have the bandwidth and we need it done ASAP. It will be just under 1k.
ETA... Fcuk auto correct!! " freshen up our house" not "freshen up our so". Fcuking apple
My problem is that there are always eight zillion big things I want to save up for, and it's hard to prioritize on one and feel like we're making real progress! I think we're set on two things: 1. Flight lessons for DH 2. A last pre-TTC vacation for the two of us (this will be kept low-budget by adding it on to our visit to DH's family in Orlando at Christmas. We might just add on a short cruise or a couple of nights on the beach).
Following those two, we're saving up for moving costs and either a downpayment or deposit/first month's rent/last month's rent for a rental. We are very tired of living in the boonies.
All will be paid for in cash, which is why it is such a long process. I am very excited for the vacation and the move, and DH is over the moon ecstatic over the flight lessons.
-what's your next big purchase? Depends on what is considered big. BIG big, buying my lease next August when it ends. We usually turn in leases but I love my car. Feels like I just got it last month and it's been 2 years now. It's special (to me at least) bc it's my 1st dream car and it's the last VIN# of it's model. It's also going to be on TV next month and probably featured in a magazine in the next year.
-are you excited about it? I already have it but still excited about it every time I get in.
-are you paying cash, financing, whoring yourself out for it? Paying cash which was the plan from the beginning. We added up the numbers and it turned out cheaper to lease and pay cash at the end than to pay cash up front.
Next actual purchase will probably be another car for H. He can't decide between the 760Li and the 4door M6 that's coming out end of 2013. We'll probably be leasing it.

We had new windows installed last week. I think that counts as we haven't paid for them yet.
Excited? Our old windows were terrible and I like seeing outside, but they are still windows. They were a necessity.
If possible we will pay with Discover to get the cash back, but we have the money saved to cover them so we will pay off the balance when the next bill is due.
-are you paying cash, financing, whoring yourself out for it?
This is not a single-item purchase, but I expect to drop a few bucks. After the kids are back in school a gf and I are driving up to King Arthur Flour in VT (about a 2-hour drive for us) so I can stock up on my baking needs for the winter. I always buy their stuff mail order, a habit I got into when I lived overseas, and the quality of their ingredients just set them apart from their supermarket counterparts. I'm getting chocolate, flours, gizmos and gadgets and probably a cake pan or two. I expect I'll get a bunch of Christmas shopping done there, too.
And on the way home I'm hoping to stop at a JCP in NH to buy new towels, tax free. I think someone on here rec'd them.
I am embarrassingly excited to have the ingredients and the day with the girlfriend. And while everything will go onto a cc, it'll all get paid at the end of the month. And it will be nice to have color coded towels (I'm getting a separate color for each of us plus one color for guests) that don't have corners chewed off by the dog.
