Pepper keeps stealing the avocado shells and eating them. She prefers to steal them out of our compost pile, but even if I throw them in the trash she will be sneaky and go digging for them. Do I need to worry that they are going to hurt her? And, yes, I will find a better solution to keep them from her, I'm just not sure what that will be yet.
The leaves, fruit, seeds and bark of avocados contain Persin, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. Birds and rodents are especially sensitive to avocado poisoning, and can develop congestion, difficulty breathing and fluid accumulation around the heart. Some ingestions may even be fatal.
