the ending annoyed me. that's it? that's the end? we don't even find out what the hell these things are or ANYTHING? I felt like there should have been a sequel the way it ended.

I thought this was a great book when I read it, it scared the shit out of me. I agree the ending was less than satisfactory, and looking back there were so many other parts that were...off. Like, she has a baby in an attic, immediately cares for another newborn in the same attic, cleans up multiple dead bodies, and boards up all the doors and windows in the house all with her eyes closed? Then twenty miles down a river blind? It seemed totally believe-able when I read it, but looking back on it it's very far-fetched. I like my survival books a little more realistic, lol.
I read this a few weeks ago and didn't love it. It was intense at first and pulled me in, but fell flat in the middle and I hated the ending. The ending felt rushed. After all the build up in the beginning, I was disappointed.

I wanted to love it but didn't. Too many loose ends. The only one I really liked was Tom. There is a movie in production.
HowTF are they going to make this into a movie? Will it just be a black screen with descriptions? WTF. Not everything has to be a movie, Hollywood.
I was wondering the same. There are certainly parts that would be incredibly creepy and suspenseful (the noises while filling water buckets at the well, the entire river excursion). But how much time could you endure watching people running around all batshit with blindfolds? The whole thing is a bit over the top.

Amen to this. We read it on my book club (my pick) and I spent the whole time ripping it to shreds.
Fun fact: canned goods was our for theme. That was... interesting.
I read this less than a month ago and completely forgot what it was about until I read through this. That's how much I enjoyed it I guess. I struggled to get through the book and there was so much left out there that needed more explanation. Maybe if there's a second book it will clear a lot up. I could see a movie being made out of the book and I think it may be better than the book itself just because I like creepy stuff and I think the movie could give me what the book didn't, creepy stuff. Or it can turn into a horrible movie.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I finally got it from the library and finished it in a day. Ugh. The end made me hate the whole thing. I feel cheated. Nothing was explained. Everything from the point when Gary arrived was terrible. I don't mind books that make you think outside the [bird] box, but this one didn't really offer ANYTHING to go on. It was so good in the beginning and through about the middle or so. Then it just irritated me. There are soooo many better end-of-world books out there.
