Did your kid's sleep schedule change when you day trained? H thinks it's a coincidence but I swear since we day trained ds, he wakes up earlier 5-5:30 instead of 6-7 (ughhh) and always says he has to go pee pee and sits but doesn't really go because full pull up and also goes down later 7-7:30ish instead of 6:30. I feel like it's potty related but maybe it's because he will be 3 in March and needs less sleep? He naps about 1-2 hours daily at school and sometimes skips it on weekends. Ughhhh.
I did not notice sleep issues changing at all when DS potty trained. However he just turned six and only within the last year has been 100% night trained.
DS1 pretty much night trained himself (no pullups or up to go in the motn) but he did go through a couple of weeks of waking between 5-5:30 to go to the bathroom and then wanting to be up for the day. Now both him and DS2 decide 5:30 is wake up. DS1 did go back to his normal wake time after a few weeks of early potty wake ups though.
Not when he first potty trained (at 3). But he is 6 now (today!) and the last 2 weeks has been waking up dry (for the first time ever!) and having to pee at 5 am. I am struggling to get him to go back to sleep.
It is possible that your DS is peeing right before he wakes up
I think that's exactly right! But it's like he doesn't know it and then up at 5 Ughhh. Wish I could get him to go back to his old wake up time. But on the other hand, he's been such a trooper with potty training, I'm afraid to undo that so we just take him even though he probably already went. Guess 5 am will just be my new norm

If I were you, I'd either ditch the diapers and try to teach him to wake up to pee (probably after a few-several accidents, and if he's not ready you might need to go back to diapers) and then teach him to go back to bed after he's woken up to pee if it's too early, or explain to him that he's wearing diapers overnight and that he shouldn't get up to pee and needs to go back to bed if he's up before a certain time.

I would not tell him to just pee in his diaper.
Get him up, have him pee and put him back to bed. Keep doing it and he'll either eventually go back to sleep or learn to stay in bed until it's time to get up. This is what we do. DS isn't falling back to sleep usually but he stays in his bed.
Maybe since yours is younger and can't tell time, try an ok to wake clock? Get him up to pee, put him back to bed and tell him he can't get up until the clock turns green.

I think I will try this over the weekend, get him up to pee and then put him back to bed and say it's too early. My concern with telling him to pee in the pull up is that we call it overnight underwear and he doesn't treat them like a diaper. I think he only pees while actually asleep. I like your idea and if all else fails, I might try an ok to wake clock in combination. Thanks!!!
I dnt know how long ago he trained, but the first few weeks after G was fully day trained he was super aware and woke up in the middle of the night or very early telling me he had to pee. However he is normally a very deep sleeper and it went back to normal in a few weeks. That was at 2.5 and he's just now, over 2 years later, starting to wake up dry more than not. Soo maybe he will readjust himself?

Thanks! Hope so. I tried quesyrah 's suggestion and got him up to pee at 5:10 and then told him it was still dark and too early and laid him back down. Although he didn't go back to sleep, he was quiet for another 25ish minutes so I think it was a good start!!
