So my confession is that I love reading the threads on what everyone is reading. I get excited, go to amazon, and purchase books for my kindle.... and never read them. I have always loved to read, but since having kids I have become easily distracted and less motivated to read. I probably have 20-25 books on my kindle that I haven't read yet, but for some reason this does not prevent me from continuing to buy more when they look great. So my question is, when do you like to read? Do you force yourself to make time for it? How do you avoid reading the same page 10 times every time you are interrupted? If it matters, I've got a preschooler, toddler, and newborn.
I have a 6 year old and 2 year old. I read during my 2 year old's naps. I also like to read at night right after I put them to bed. It takes my 6 year old 15-20 minutes to fall asleep and if I make too much noise he comes out to see what I am doing and has trouble going back to bed. So I like taking 20-30 minutes to read quietly.
I make a point to read a little bit every night between getting the kids in bed and going to bed myself. When my kids were newborn/toddlers I would sneak in a few pages during naps and when H was on kid duty. I even brought a book and hid in the bathroom a few times.
Hi! I also read after DS goes to bed and DH gets DD ready for bed. Our bedrooms are on the same floor as the kitchen and living room, so it's too noisy if I try to do anything else. I also read before bed, but I have to make sure the book isn't too exciting or I'm not too close to the end, or I'll stay up super late to finish it. Lately I've been reading Dickens at night, because I know I won't try to get through 700 pages in one night.

This is my problem. I have trouble reading a book in bits and pieces. I won't want to stop reading and then I end up staying up all night and am exhausted the next day. This is why I never used to read during the school year. I would try just reading on the train but would always end up reading during my lunch/preps and not getting my work done.
Hey there and welcome! I am always reading in my phone (kindle app) during naps and before bed. Sometimes I need to wear baby to get him to nap so I read on my phone while I bounce him to sleep. I always download the sample when I hear of a book I want to read and then purchase only if I've completed the sample and like it enough to want to read more.
I feel like I've seen you before too. Anyway - hi!
I used to love reading in bed at night before falling asleep, but since having DS I prefer to just go to bed and...well...sleep. So that's out.
Then for a while I used to read during his nap. Then around age 2 he dropped his nap.
So now I read when he's occupied watching a show, or playing on his Leappad. That sort of works, but I find the books I choose now are much lighter, quicker reads than I used to choose because, yeah, it often happens in bursts of like 5-10 minutes here and there instead of sitting for a few hours of straight, uninterrupted reading. Aah, the good old days...
Hello! Your sn sounds familiar. I have a toddler and when I was home, I would read during nap time or for the half hour after putting him down. I have been terrible about making that time since returning ft to work but I am now thinking about audio books since I have quite a commute!
I cheat. I make my students read for the first 10 minutes of class and I make myself model it at least 3 days a week.
I've posted very sporadically;) I've lurked forever though... Going back to the bump, at least 4 years or so. Eta- thanks for all the welcomes. I will try to post more:)
I read every night. DD goes to bed early but also won't sleep if she thinks she's missing something. So, I usually read for an hour or so in the evenings.

When dd was a newborn, I used to read while rocking her to sleep. I used to have to hold her for about 30 minutes after she was asleep in order to be able to put her down, so I got a good amount read (I read the entire Game of Thrones series). I've always read before bed, usually for a half hour to an hour, while my husband watches tv I don't like. I am a tv junkie too, but I save tv I like to watch for nap/quiet time and while dh is putting the kids to bed/early evening. I also always have my kindle with me, so I often read at times like when dd is doing gymnastics/dance, waiting in the car during preschool pickup, etc. And I read a lot on the weekends. Reading is probably my favorite 'hobby' so I do make it a priority to have time for it, but it's definitely easier now that my kids are older (4 and 6).
Hi! Thanks for posting this. I'm exactly the same regarding books. Come June I'll also have a preschooler, toddler, and newborn. I did really well with making time to read the end of last year and first couple weeks of January but now it's been a week or so since I've read anything!

I read at work, my job is pretty slow, once I'm home I just either have no time or I just want to veg out and watch tv after lo is in bed. You might want to see if your library has ebooks, that way you're not spending $ on books you might not read, and the books will be deleted after they are due "back".
