We watched it and I loved it. It was weird seeing David Tennant in this kind of role, but he does it beautifully (as always - I love him). I love the raw, gritty aspect and the storyline kept us interested. The last few episodes drag a bit, but it pays off for sure.
And, um, Luke Cage is just pretty to look at. Rawr.
Daredevil does something similar so you'd probably like that too. Luke Cage will be out this fall, then Iron Fist at some point and then the Defenders team up. All will have the same realistic vibe you see.

We loved Daredevil, too. I never realized that Kingpin was such a BAD guy. Oof. D'Onofrio did such a good job with him!
Although I kept hearing his "water...with...sugar" voice from MIB in my head, haha.

who is Iron Fist?
and are all these people either accidents or experiments? excluding thor and loki.
what is Hawkeye's abilities? black widow was experiment, right? hulk was experiment/accident. iron man was accident.
Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are explained in some of the last few episodes.
Hawkeye is just human, but an expert marksman, I believe. He was raised in a carnival or something ridiculous like that, haha. Hulk was researching the serum that was used on Captain America. Only one dose of it was used before the doctor who made it was killed (at least in the MCU). Since then, everyone tried to make their own serums and research it. Hulk was researching it for the army/government or something I think. Iron Man's injury with the thing was an accident, but most of his powers are related to his suit and tech. He's a genius, billionaire playboy philanthropist (ha). His dad was involved with the tech/research during Captain America's time and was also a genius. Stark Industries builds a lot of weapon and tech. Black Widow is Russian/KGB. Possibly serum enhanced but the MCU hasn't confirmed that (comics have I think, but MCU is sort of its own thing/version). She was trained from childhood to be a killer/assassin.
Iron Fist is some martial arts expert with some connection to some secret city or something? I'm not very knowledgeable on him. Daredevil was blinded in an accident but trained. I think the accident may have enhanced his senses, and may be related to what we find out at the end of JJ.
Let's see...who else. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were experimented on by Hydra. Vision is sort of a creation of tech and AI but also with some outer space/other realms magic via the infinity stones.
But don't forget the other outer space/alien stuff - Guardians of the Galaxy is part of the MCU and will eventually play into Avengers Infinity War or whatever it is called.
I watched the first three with H. I think I picked up the recommendation here on GBCN. I thought it was decent enough, but I didn't feel compelled to keep watching it, so I let it go. I'm not really into superheroes/comics, so maybe that's why. Anyway, H is still watching.
I pretty much love all Marvel comic film/TV adaptations. Jessica Jones is no exception. It's pretty dark but I have enjoyed the episodes I've watched (I think I'm on episode 9 or 10.) I loved Daredevil.
Is this something i should watch on maternity leave? I am hoarding shows but I can't watch anything too violent/depressing?
I've only seen three episodes. I would say that the nature of the conflicts are psychological, not physical. It has edge of your seats nervous don't know if I can watch moments, but it's more because of the mind-fuck, not because of blood and guns.
If you are interested in learning Marvel origin stories, check out ComicBookGirl19 on YouTube. She has done a two part series on X-Men, where she dives into the Marvel universe as a whole. There are other random episodes about Marvel (I just think XMen is her personal favorite).
She also does a great history of the different houses in Game of Thrones if that is of interest too.
really, I was recc'd from feminist blogs and SPN tumblr b/c of fucking course I was
Yes. GOTG is really awesome though. Great soundtrack and very funny. It all takes place in space.
Antman is one I forgot - his powers are tech related, being able to shrink. Hank Pym is the original, but in the MCU, Hank Pym is old and he shares his tech with someone else.
I see a lot of JJ on tumblr when I check out tumblr, but I watched it the day it came out - we binged over like 4 days lol. If we didn't have kids, it would have been much less. JJ is a badass. I love the whole show, though. And damn, Luke Cage.
You'd probably like the Captain America movies. The first one takes place during WWII, and the second one has a lot of NSA/big brother overtones. The Avengers ones are the ones that are like big team up destruction, lol. Though there is destruction in the CA ones, haha, without much regard. It's just not as superhero-y.
XMen is my true love, but XMen 3 broke my heart into a million pieces. I've been slow to return to my love, and in the meantime, MCU took up a huge piece of my heart.

I LOVED gambit and jubilee in the cartoon. are either of these in the movie?
I don't like wolverine all that much. and I hate how he killed his brother in the first movie and the reconned the shit out of it for the one with deadpool in it.
I however, AM SUPER FUCKING excited with the jared leto batman villain movie this summer. I love Harley quinn
Standalone Gambit is coming! I think the origins stories were a mistake too. Not that they shouldn't have been made, but I didn't think they were that great (deadpool was in XMen Origins I think? It was bad though whatever they did). XMen First Class and XMen Days of Future Past are really good. I'm excited for the new one coming that is set in the 80s - XMen Apocalypse looks FUCKING AMAZING.
Suicide Squad looks awesome! I am not excited for Batman vs. Superman, but I kind of hate both of them. Too many awesome heroes, they can both go DIAF.

We binged-watched the series back when it was released. We really enjoyed it. I think it's awesome. However, I will say that it took about five or six episodes to really pick up the pace and delve into Killgrave's character. We were super excited about it since we LOVE Daredevil, which was pretty fast paced and had a lot of action from the early episodes. But that's not JJ. JJ is a detective show with some action, and it's a slow build to the really great stuff.
It's very well done, well-written and acted.
Now we're pretty stoked for Daredevil S2 next month! *happy dance* We've already planned to watched it all over the course of the weekend. Netflix + Marvel can do no wrong.
ETA:
Unrelated to MCU, but H and I were talking about wanting Netflix to partner with Disney/Lucas Arts to do a Star Wars series with Joss Whedon. How awesome would that be!? I want to see more Netflix/MCU and other series. They've proven they can produce shows of excellent quality on par with AMC and premium movie channels. I'd love to see more series of this caliber on Netflix (because who wants to watch one episode a week. I'll take all of them. Thank you.)
...and you really should watch Agents of SHIELD. (But only after you watch The Avengers)
It's really good, and features a number of women who kick ass.
I didn't even add in the Inhumans!
I like Agents of Shield, but haven't watched any of this season yet. I feel like it's better to binge it; it's hard for me to follow week to week.
I have Agent Carter on my dvr too, and bought season 1. I need to watch that. I'm not a huge Peggy Carter fan - she's just okay. But I do love Hayley Atwell.

I'm so annoyed. I finally finished season 2 a few weeks ago (I watched like 10 episodes in one day). The first 5 episodes of season 3 do not appear to be available free anywhere. On Demand and Hulu both just have 6-10. I really want to get caught up! I can't decide if I should shell out the $10 to watch them on Amazon or just read synopses and go on to the later episodes.

Agent Carter is awesome but it's worth watching for the clothes, hair, and makeup alone.
I want to watch it, but have heard there is something sensitive in the first episode or two. Can someone fill me in?
There's a pretty disturbing and violent scene that I definitely didn't see coming and left me pretty breathless. It's central to the plot and not just gratuitous violence, though.
There are potentially sensitive things in pretty much every episode though, just due to the nature of the story. I'd say the show in general is more worrisome and uncomfortable for victims of rape and / or abusive relationships, especially as you get further in the episodes. The physical violence is par for the course when it comes to "action" type shows, I think.
Overall, it's really, really good and definitely worth watching.
Yes. I tried really hard to watch it but was becoming panicky, so I stopped. I will say that they capture flashbacks and anxiety/panic and PTSD very well. Too well. lol.
