We are going to be in Kyoto from March 24-27th (so peak cherry blossom time) and our AirBnB just cancelled on us! My H spent ages finding somewhere to stay and it was all for nothing
I'm trying to find a replacement. Anyone have recs for something relatively reasonably priced? Less than $200 a night would be great. Location matters much to us more than amenities.
not a rec, but a caution. do not stay at the crowne plaza in Kyoto - it was horrible. I think it may have taken on a new name, but it is right across from one of the castles. They ended up opening all of the windows/doors during housekeeping hours to air out all of the cigarette stench.
Omg are you so mad? I'm so sorry. Will AirBnB help you? I don't have a rec because we are doing VRBO but I know there are old kyoto threads on this board that mention hotels.

I am pissed. The host said Airbnb is now banned in his neighborhood or something. Who knows wtf happened.
I actually did manage to find something today but it was hard. EVERYTHING is booked up. Of course our hotel is more expensive and in a less desirable location
I did look at a few old threads, and I think we will be there at the same time! We're doing March 24-27.
Sounds like you found something, but if not, we just stayed at the Hotel Monterey in Kyoto about 3 weeks ago. Paid $167/nt for a room with 3 beds. It's a nice hotel that is about 2 blocks from a subway station and walkable to many things like Nijo-jo Castle and Nishiki Market and the Imperial Palace. I would stay here again.

Thanks, I will probably still look around as the room I booked is refundable. I'll check this place out.

so glad you found something! That completely sucks, how bad you were hosed. When I reserved our place it was slim pickings back then! At least we won't be in our rooms much.
And yes same time for us! We fly in on the 25th. Fingers crossed it's cherry blossom week then.
Yikes, I'm sorry! I hope it's not a city-wide reg. we basically are finalizing our dates (last 2 weeks of April) this week.
Who knows. The host had previously mentioned that his guests need to be quiet during the day because a lot of the people in the building work at night, so maybe when he said neighborhood he just meant building? He is definitely not a native English speaker so I think his message is open to interpretation.
Not sure if you found anything yet, but I stayed at the Granvia. Someone on here recommended it. It was great being right at the main train and bus station. Hope you find something!

I was reading on reddit that people are having their Airbnb's cancelled left and right because it is illegal in Japan. After I read this it happened to us but I was able to find us hotels to stay in, but it was a pita.
Ok, this makes me less mad I guess. What a hassle though.

Yikes, thanks for the info pinkplasticdoll! Hope you've found a replacement rupertpenny. We've decided to postpone our Japan trip until next year (going to Vietnam instead!) so we now have plenty of time to find a place to stay, I guess. Share what you found and like please!
