Whaaaaaaaaaat. I was at a birthday party for one of H's relatives the other weekend and one of the parents was letting their 22 month old drink Pepsi from a straw.
WHY would anyone want to give toddlers EXTRA energy. Does.Not.Compute.
Oh, and my H was born with an extra (albeit boneless) thumb He was mad that his parents didn't take a picture before they had it removed.

A few years ago I made some random post about judging a parent for giving their child, about a year old, soda while we were in line to check in for a flight. In response I had people call me a judgy asshole b/c the kid probably had diabetes. I have no idea who said that, but it certainly didn't stop me from judging
But, actually, I don't judge the soda on the paci all that much. She probably learned that sugar does basically dope kids, so they'll use sugar water in the hospital if they have to muck with the child like for a heel prick or shots, and she ran with it to get the kid to calm down all the time. Bad judgment, but not as judgy as soda for the sake of soda.
But, I come from a family that claimed they put alcohol on our paci to get us to calm down
