I know most of us already know not to put infant seats on the top of carts and to always buckle the baby in, but please please please make sure you explain why to others and don't try it yourself even if you just need a bit more room! Today I was leaving target with all three kids in tow (baby in the cart basket, toddler in the sitting area and then I told the 4yo to hop on the side because it was sloppy and slippery and she's slow). Then I hit a chunk of ice and just about tipped the whole cart over. The scariest part was my 4yo flying off flat in her back into the parking lot. She's fine thank God but all I oculus see was what could have happened to a baby in a bucket. Please be careful!!

Glad everyone is ok! I just wanted to add to be ESPECIALLY careful with smaller, lighter carts. We have an 'express' store that only has smaller carts, and about a year ago I was there with dd and ds. Dd was sitting in the seat part and buckled in, and ds asked if he could push the cart. I said ok (as I guided it too), but stopped to put fruit in a bag. Ds apparently held onto the bar and tried to stand on the bottom part, and his weight and dd's weight together totally tipped the cart. Since dd was buckled in, she stayed in the seat and got smushed...hid her legs, squished her fingers, and hit her head on the ground. It was TERRIFYING but luckily she really only had a busted lip.

We have a department store on town that has these small carts. I can see this happening with my kids since DS1 loves to climb on the lower bars. I'll be putting an end to that!

Something similar happened at Trader Joes w/ my first 2 kids when they were 3.5 and 9 months. It was scary but luckily the manager there is so awesome and helped me out.

Ya know, I think that's part of what bothered me too. Not one person stopped to ask if any of us were ok. There were many people coming and going and no one said anything.
