Ooh, I'm glad you responded! I think it would be something you'd have to know ahead of time to follow. I think some of the transitions were awkward and didn't place the shifting narratives into the timeline well. But, I though the production design was so pretty. The interesting thing about the movie versus the original cast recording (because I haven't seen a stage version), is how much easier it is to pick a side. Maybe that's Kendrick's charm. It just felt more lopsided to me.
And Schmuel is still as bad as ever.
The music is lovely, and I love the narrative aspect of it. I felt the movie transitioned too much, almost to the point of distraction. But I'd love to see the two of them do it live, or anything, because I thought they had great chemistry.
Agreed on all counts. I watched bc of this post and half the time I didn't know when it was or whose point of view it was. Esp. when the proposal happened and then you saw them walking into the gazebo again, same clothes, Cathy gives a weird look and then nothing. Anyhow, the last number was amazing and I definitely got it then

Yeah, the stage version is much better at this because (as I understand it), Cathy and Jamie don't share the stage until the Next Ten minutes. At least in the dynamic way they do in the movie.
I do like I can fire it up and not watch and just listen
