3 friends and I are going to a bridal shower for a friend of ours whose upcoming wedding is in town. Not a family only affair. Neither of us were invited to the wedding.
Wont lie, I am (and we are) a bit miffed but I (we all) like her so... Here we are, buying presents and attending the shower, yet we're not going to the wedding.
It might be a thing. Didn't @koko's sister do a version of this? I don't think it's a youth thing though, I think it's a CHURCH thing. This girl I grew up managed to convince her church friends to buy her a car (which she was so ***blessed*** to receive, except it didn't have A/C and once she had it, she started complaining nonstop about wanting a newer car, but still, *** blessed***). When you see that happen, and maybe even contribute to it, then it really isn't that big of a stretch to having the same community pay for your wedding or send presents to a wedding they won't attend.
I mean, at core, it's a form of communism. Which is both good and bad I guess.
Yup. And if they are ever questioned on this, it's "Oh, we got a TON of gifts. No one had a problem with it!!!"
"These people" are the crop of people who say shit like "etiquette is outdated"/ "etiquette does'nt matter anymore"/ "It's my wedding and I should be able to do what I want".
