Background-found a new babysitter for the mad men party this weekend (btw, the pink dress was too big but the black and white one fit perfectly) and I said I found the sitter through a friend and I trust her judgment. Then I made a joke that she is republican though...haha Just an innocent tease, really. Her reply...
Mom: I don't want to even go there. I dislike obama even more now than 4 years ago. I hoped things would change! Now they are worse. Do you read reputable sources? Sorry I didn't want to go there. He is even a bad dem.
Me: haha i like obama less this time too, but still more than romney & I'm not sure how any women could for a republican these days. I'm ok w/ taxing the rich more, even though that means me! Though most would be better off tax wise under obma. i'm pro choice, pro gay marriage, & think the ACA is an improvement but not perfect.
Mom: You are just singing the Obama mantra. Facts are blurred. This is a sit down conversation.I'm not as stupid or unrealistic as you may think. Enough for now catch you later for more pleasant subject
Me (sent at the same time) -The Obama mantra? I'm assuming you're referring to taxes b/c the other issues had been decided for me before Obama was ever a candidate.
:end scene:
Now, I know she reads a newspaper. WSJ, i think. But she always has Fox News on when I visit. Just sayin'.
I don't know, it always turns ugly when I've tried to talk politics w/ my parents in the past.
It got better after I told my aunt (her sister) about the convo and apparently my aunt saw the Obama 2016 documentary and is all anti-Obama now. Something about his brother living in a hut in Kenya...and when I asked if they talked about his policies, she said something about him wanting to do things that they tried a long time ago in China and Korea or someshit and it didn't work, and things only got better after they changed to more American-type policies. Made no sense.
