mich1 AutoCAD and SolidWorks?! Ooh la la. Are you an engineering major too?
Nope, Engineering drafting and design at the local tech college. When I got sick a few years ago, I could no longer do the career I worked in for 30 years. I need to do something totally sedentary. I was a scientist in my other life, so this seemed logical. I have a lot of the basics from my undergrad degree, so just take mostly drafting classes.
Actually, it's pretty fun. I call AutoCAD Etch-a-Sketch for adults! Now (or in about 8 months) I need to find someone who will employ a 56 year old disabled woman.
I have a desk at home. I prefer the couch for most things but do use the desk when I'm working on really big projects or need to spread out physical resources. My classes are online so I can't answer your second question personally. H always takes his laptop to class with him, but rarely uses the desk.
I use my desk for all my school needs. My major (biology) requires a lot of reading, studying, and research and I prefer to be seated at a desk for more focus. I take my laptop to school for the lull between classes I prefer to write my notes by hand for my lecture classes.

That's awesome! My background is in drafting, so if you ever need another set of eyes on your portfolio, give me a holler.
In undergrad I obviously had a desk (dorms and college apts) but never brought a laptop to class, it wasn't really a thing. I was a Comp Sci major so we were almost always in the labs.
In grad school I did not have a desk. I usually worked on the couch. I still didn't bring a laptop to class because I'm too used to taking notes by hand.
