Always always read your grocery receipts before leaving the store. I have done so for as long as I can remember and have found several small mistakes over the years. However yesterday I got charged $50 for pork chops that I didn't buy. The store manager told me that what likely happened is that there was a tag stuck on something that I had bought however I haven't found it yet.
It was one item so the tag if there is one had to have been for one large package. I would never spend that much on meat. My rule is don't buy meat unless it's on sale.
Not too long ago I was charged for $12 worth of plants (I had gone nowehere near the plant section). Apparently the code for the discount for having your own bags is one digit away from a certain $3 plant, and she charged me for four of those. Luckily I checked, and went to customer service before I left to get it refunded.
The worst was when I was in university, and had taken the bus to the grocery store. When I had finally taken the bus back, and lugged my groceries home in my giant backpack, I noticed on my receipt that she had put in the code for snow peas when she weighed my big bag of potatoes, so I had paid a ridiculous amount for it. No way was I taking the bus all the way back there, but man, I was fuming! Lesson learned!
Did you notice your bill was higher than expected?
I'm sure someone is going to chime in with "lalala I spend so much I would never notice $50!" But man, I would notice right away.
Lol me too! I have a friend who thought she was buying something for $20 and it was actually $200. She didn't notice until the next day. Lol like HOW does that happen
When DH asks if we're having anything special for Valentine's Day dinner, I'm seriously going to tell him we're having porn chops, just to see his reaction...
I would definitely notice $50! That's crazy. But I'm also kind of obsessed with my grocery bill and making sure I earn all the points I'm supposed to (my grocery store has a points program). Obsessive checker, over here.
Yes they did. I had asked to speak to a store manager and when he came over I explained the situation and told him that he could look through my bags. He said he believed me and told the checkout coach to refund me. This particular bill had been $250 before my refund. I usually try to aim for $150 for the week but my bill is usually $150-$200. And that doesn't include just food that includes everything toiletries, laundry detergent, diapers, etc.

I had a running $25/month charge on my phone bill for a few months before I realized DS had bought some kind of game when he was fooling around on my phone one day. I seriously didn't even realize you could do that on a non-smart phone - I mean it's a crappy little Nokia, for cripes' sake!

I was like WTF is this charge, so I looked up on googleplay, ahhh. Ya, the password block went right up, lol.
